If you choose to eat here, be prepared to wait a crazy long time and have your food arrive cold. We waited so long for our food that we ended up cancellling part of our order. We expressed our concern to the manager and received a very unconcerned reply that did not address the poor service. When we received our bill, the food we cancelled was still on it! It’s a shame because the food we did receive was good but the lousy service spoke much louder.
Just okay. While the sushi is pretty decent, and the presentation is beautiful, I found it to be overpriced and the service to be mediocre. A specialty roll goes for about $14 when you can go to just about any other sushi bar in town and get a similar roll for almost half the price. I do come here occasionally just for a change in scenery, but it’s not my favorite sushi bar in town. I prefer Yume, Pacific Rim and Jpan!
Delicious. When we try to come up with a place to go for dinner we occasionally think of the Drunken Poet, but pass believing it is expensive. We were wrong. I guess it has been too long since we looked at their menu, if we ever did. It turns out there is a wide range of prices but some items are quite moderately priced. We visited Drunken Poet Caf for the first time tonight and were much pleased with the food. I had the Pad Thai and it was absolutely delicious. I had completely forgotten about this entree. Going forward this dish will be a go-to choice at Thai restaurants, and I would be surprised if others can top how good it was tonight. My wife was also very pleased with her Salmon Panang, a healthy and excellent choice.Commensurate with a lower cost than I expected, it was also not as fine dining-ish as I expected. It was more relaxing. We ate inside and found the dcor minimal and the tables a bit close together. We also came to realize service (at least for us) was more tag-team than assigned server. Still, overall service was fine.We had a very nice dinner and are glad we finally tried the Drunken Poet Caf.
Concerns Allayed. Having read some of the reviews I was concerned about this spot. However, we found the food to be very good, fairly priced, and the service very friendly. We will return.
I simple felt Robbed !. This place was horrible. The first time my family and I went to this place we walked in and asked to sit down in a specific chair, we were told we could not we must sit 3 feet away in another table that the waitress is attending to. Needless to say we walked out. Today my son and I went back to give them a second chance. The restaurant was busy and we have heard great things about this place. Let me tell you I felt Robbed and wanted to call the police…. We ordered the following;2 squid salads with sea weed2 sushi rolls2 watersBill: $75.39 I will NEVER go back. Anyone that goes to this place is NUTTS. Across the street less than 50FEET away is the best rated Sushiplace in town Yume. Go there. we like to try different things from time to time but I don’t think I willdo that again.
Very nice service, and ambiance, the food is a big disappointment. Prices too high for mediocre food! Sushi did not taste fresh and there were way too many stylized rolls on the menu. Who the heck needs or wants so many unknown ingredients mixed together? The duck panang sauce was unimpressive.
Excellent!!!. I have never eaten here altho I live downtown and that had to be the BEST Thai food I have had in Sarasota. I had the Panang Curry and we tried the Pad Thai…and the Tom Kar Ghai Soup…all three were outrageously delicious. The waitress was fantastic (Anh), recently arrived from Thailand and full of laughter and kindness. She brought the chef out to meet us. The specialty dishes and sushi that passed by looked amazing and beautifully prepared. Definitely a winner! Go! Great atmosphere, too.
