Amazing Italian Dinner. This is place is FANTASTIC! First of all you need to realize this is a family owned italian place…that means -There WILL be a language barrier- the owners (or owner whom I met last night) are straight from Europe. His name was Alessandro (or something like that) he told us he isn’t normally there and his role is normally a grandfather, how cute! So, to begin we walked in kind of confused if it was seat yourself or go to hostess stand but Alessandro came up to us with open arms and in broken english told us to follow him to a table. He sat us right in front of the band (best seat in the house). A few minutes later a very handsome looking italian man came to take our drink order, we got italian soda and water. Within a few seconds Alessandro came whizzing by our table with a fresh plate of Bruschetta (on the house). This was already fantastic. Next came out our fresh bread with oil and spices (delicious). When we ordered, it was pretty obvious you are supposed to kind of point at what you are selecting to ensure the waiter understands. I got a seared salmon on a bed of spinach with a white wine sauce (best salmon I have EVER had). The cut was huge and thick well worth 21$. My boyfriend ordered a pizza called Alessandro (ironic, huh) which was a very thin crust with homemade sauce and a olive oil base, spinach, grape tomatoes and brechu’ (a salty ham). He was floored. During our entire meal, the band was great, the atmosphere was romantic and very italian, and Alessandro was dancing with customers and the staff to the band. Overall it was a night that will not be forgotten anytime soon. Alessandro thanked us him self and asked us if our meal was up to our standards, we thanked him for the amazing night and he said some beautiful saying in italian before shaking our hands and dancing away. Overall, you have to experience this place! Look past the fact they are not american and they are trying their best to understand you and serve you! 5 stars is an understatement!

Could have been better but they have a good excuse this time. This weekend is the annual Chalk Festival where artists from the US and around the world come to do their magic on Pineapple Ave. Matto Matto is located at one end of Pineapple Ave where it meets Orange Ave at a point. It was busy along the street and at the restaurant. We felt fortunate to get a table.Matto Matto has only been open a couple of months and this was their busiest day so far, good for them but Im afraid it worked against them for a good review. Service was friendly but slow, particularly with the endgame, with our server having trouble keeping up. The kitchen was likely running behind as well, it took about 20 minutes for our dinners.I had the Spaghetti alla Puttanesca. It was good, not great, and at $16.95 I thought a little expensive. Some freshly grated parmesan cheese would have helped. One thing going against them was the outdoor lighting was yellow and that made the dish look unappetizing. In fact I tried taking photos of my dish and they all looked so bad Im not posting any.My wife had the Alessandro pizza. It looked much better and when it first came out was warm and the crust crispy. It was also a little expensive at $16.95 for a 12 inch.We enjoyed the live entertainment tonight, a trio playing some international tunes. Not perfect pitch but it still very pleasant. This place has potential. It will be interesting to read what others think about their visits under more normal circumstances.
