Small place in a strip mall so easy to miss, but it’s clean, lots of menu choices and everything was delicious. We got chicken sandwich, traditional Cuban, fried yucca, sweet plantains, Cuban coffee and fresh sugar cane juice. Everything was great. Definitely order yuca frita con mojo to go with your meal.
Awesome Cuban. Lunch at Palmas de Cuban was great! There was only one waitress working but she was on top of everything. I ordered the Cuban because you totally have to at a Cuban place. I asked the waitress what comes with it and she advised it came by itself. Afraid there wouldn’t be enough food, I ordered a side salad. The person I was with got the special, which on Friday’s ( they have a special everyday) was chicken and yellow rice. When the food came out I was surprised by the portions! My Cuban was huge! It really didn’t need anything! The bread of the Cuban was just right and every bite had meat in it! The side salad tasted so fresh and the ranch dressing was so creamy. The person I was with meal looked great and I was advised it tasted awesome too. There was a generous portion (about 1/4 of a chicken) of chicken and rice. The yellow rice was amazing, it was cooked just right and had a wonderful flavor.I topped my meal off with a Caf con Leche. The Caf con leche could have been a little stronger but definitely had a pleasurable taste and an awakening that I felt a short while later. In all, I would recommend Palmas de Cuba to a friend for the small quaint atmosphere, great service and excellent food.
Excellent Cuban sandwich. We came looking for Caf Havana and found Palmas de Cuba. Turns out they recently changed the name but it is still the same staff and menu. There may have been an ownership change, not too clear on that point. What I can say is if Caf Havana was the Home of the Cuban Sandwich, so is Palmas de Cuba. The bread was excellent. I personally like a little more pickle but Ive come to believe what I had tonight was prepared exactly right. Extra meat is an option.Palmas de Cuba serves both Cuban and Mexican dishes. While it is not a fancy place it is also not a hole in the wall, more a comfortable place for an inexpensive meal. It took a little too long for our food to arrive. My wife had the Palmas Steak Dinner, a thin sliced marinated steak fried with onions. I liked the flavor of the meat and it was not tough.
Best Cuban food I’ve had in this area.. Had a Cuban sandwich, cafe con leche, maduros, yuca frita and it was all delicious. Can’t wait to go back next visit.
We had the Cuban sandwich and enpanadas. The empanadas were excellent. The Cuban was okay maybe I was expecting something different. Don’t get the big sandwich, just go with normal size.
Still looking for a good Cuban restaurant i’n the LBK, Sarasota area. Cafe Havana was OK. The Daily Special was chicken and yellow rice with black beans and yucca. The chicken was nothing special but the beans and yucca were very good. My husband (a Cuban) had breaded steak which was pretty tasteless. The best part of the meal was dessert-the flan was fabulous as was the cafe cubano.
Good Traditional Cuban Breakfast. My spouse is Cuban, and we miss the traditional Cuban breakfasts at La Caretta in Miami. We ate at the nice Pho restaurant in the same strip center along Washington just south of downtown, and saw Cafe Havana and decided to give it a try.We were the only customers at 10am on a Saturday morning, so entered with a bit of trepidation. Not to worry, it was very good. Seems they do a pretty brisk take-out business……..folks were ordering picadillo and other traditional Cuban specialties.I needed my coffee, and the large Cafe con Leche was spot on, prepared perfectly……..delicious with a good amount of espumita (foam from the sugar) floating to the top.Eggs were done perfectly, sopped up by the very good Cuban bread. Not sure if they make this in house or order it from the Tampa bakery. We substituted croquettes instead of the ham or bacon…….they were the frozen kind, so were a bit disappointing, but still tasty. The orange juice is fresh squeezed, and my wife said it was the best she ever had.The young lady who took our order also did the cooking. Very pleasant, quick, and efficient.I did not look at the lunch/dinner menu, but we will have to come back and give it a try.Hoping they have my favorite, vaca frita.
