A wonderful find!. Stumbled across Pomona while trying to familiarize myself with the area. Returned with my husband and had a truly delightful experience. Our waiter, Don (?), was so pleasant and knowledgeable. The wine captain helped us choose a truly delightful wine and the food was divine! Arthur, one of the owners came out to greet us and was charming. I can’t say enough good things about the evening. So glad we didn’t fight the traffic going out to the Key. This little place is a gem!
Was not very good for the cost. I ordered the French Onion Soup and Scallops. The dinner bread was uninspired, a single type and common. I liked the soup. While I prefer the salty style, this was sweet. That’s ok, it was still obviously a well-prepared dish. As for the scallops, it was not well prepared. The online menu lists scallops with tomatoes and broth and olives and I used that as a guide on what to order before heading for the restaurant. The restaurant menu was different, it listed the scallops with ravioli and barigoule sauce. Ok. What I got were four very large scallops with four pieces of ravioli. Any sauce was within the ravioli. I believe the scallops were pan seared. No aromatic tomato broth, no delightful sauce, no slice of lemon, not even a salt shaker on the table. Just four $7 apiece scallops – cooked. As for service, that could have been better too. I personally liked our waiter. I think he just had too many tables and that should not be the situation when we are paying $30 each for our entrees. And without going into details, there were a couple of other things that annoyed us. It was not a great experience, and that was unfortunate.
Review. I absolutely love the abience the food the desserts and the staff
Best restaurant in Sarasota!!. I first saw the restaurant while traveling to the theater nearby! I was struck by the architecture of the building and the furnishings inside. I immediately thought I wanted to give it a try. I found it by googling restaurants on N. Orange. I called for a reservation…it was my birthday and my husband and I wanted a special dinner to celebrate! From the moment we entered we were treated like royalty. Arthur was our server and he could not be more pleasant or accommodating. He knew everything about the menu and made suggestions. We enjoyed warmed Mediterranean olives with a cheese tray for an appetizer along with a bottle of Remole carefully poured by the wine steward who was present to answer any questions we had about our choice. The entrees were magnificent..flounder so tasty and scallops expertly seasoned with homemade artichoke ravioli! Dinner was capped off with a souffle for my husband and a complimentary Napoleon apple pastry for my birthday. Arthur was not only an superb server he was also co-owner. He interacted with mostly all of the patrons as the 12 tables inside were sooned filled ( on a Tuesday night.) We will not only go back but we will recommend this glorious establishment to all of our friends ! Well done Arthur and the staff of Pomona Bistro and Wine Bar. You made this birthday celebration one I’ll always treasure!
As a party of 5 we got to sit outside next to the fire. We enjoyed great wine, food, service and ambiance. All the dishes had great presentation and it has been the best food I’ve had in Sarasota in quite sometime. While it is still located in Sarasota where the people will always complain to try and get something for free! Never mind those other comments/reviews. If you are a diner it’s a must!
Great food great service you must try while you are in town this season!!! Book in advance there is reson why you can’t get in!
First Rate. Entering Pomona you feel a positive vibe. The interior is understated and quietly elegant. We were greeted by the owner who escorted us to a very nice table. The sommelier stopped by and asked if we needed help with the wine list without being pushy or offensive. The menu was small but had a number of interesting seasonal selections. As a first course, the four of us split two orders of excellent pumkin risotto. It went very nicely with the Rioja we had selected from the extensive, yet fairly priced wine list. Our small group does not judge the quality of the meal by the quantity served, therefore we all ordered small plates as our entrees, which proved to be more than satisfying. Though the Grand Marnier souffle was tempting, we all took a pass and ordered decaf cappuccino. It was served in a large cup and had a distinct cinnamon flavor that in itself made a great dessert. We had a wonderful time and found the service to be both attentive and professional. Looking forward to our next visit. Incidentally…not the standard Sarasota restaurant crowd.
