The food was great! I am Puerto Rican and my mom is the best Rican cook in the world. The rice and beans rivaled my moms. I had the carnitas and they were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. My wife had the pernil and it was moist and plentiful. The place has limited seating and mostly on the outside. We will definitely go back.
So FAB it’s not to be believed. We stopped in here for our first time the other day just for a snack…well that turned out to be a HUGE meal and it was DELISH! We started out with a spinach and cheese empanada and a codfish fritter (more like a pancake). Well my husband and I didn’t share well LOL so we had to get more snacks…another cheese and spinach empanada and a beef and we had to try the daily special which was pastelon, which is like a Puerto Rican Sheppard’s pie. Everything we ate was so delicious. The empanada crust was flavorful and flaky and the fillings were also flavorful…the spinach and cheese is my favorite! The pastelon was such a yummy comfort food dish and the red rice and beans were cooked to perfection…THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS IT’S SMALL! There really is no seating inside but they have a few tables set up out front. This place is a GEM!!We can’t wait to go back and order more food!!
Yummy. Food is full of flavor and the owners are friendly. Must try the beef empanada. You won’t be disappointed.
It was good. Im no expert on Puerto Rican food and I dont write so good, but I have no reason to contest the other more eloquently written and positive reviews. I had the Roast Pork with rice, the meat was tender and tasty…and plentiful. Other items I tried were also good.Sofrito Mamas is primarily a take-out restaurant but there are a couple of tables outside. They were very helpful as we looked through the menu. The interactions between the restaurant and the customers were friendly and genuine, and this is the sort of place where they take pride in their food and value their customers.
Muy Delicioso!. Do yourself a favor and try Sofrito Mama’s. Across the board, the food is AMAZING. I’m a huge fan of the Roast Pork. Succulent, moist, seasoned with a sure hand….pair it with the plantains and you have a hearty meal that will stick to your ribs. I also recommend the empanadas, which are crisp and NEVER greasy. Whatever you order, your food will be made-to-order from authentic Puerto Rican recipes, so fresh and delicious! The gracious owners, Alicia & Jason, will welcome you and tell you about their specials such as Mofongo or Codfish Salad, which change daily and are available along with their regular menu. I am happy to support this small local business not only for the phenomenal food but for the service and atmosphere.
We had been looking for a good Puerto Rican restaurant for a long time. Now that we found Sofrito Mama’s I wouldn’t go anywhere else! They are so friendly every time we go and the food is delicious! I haven’t tried anything I didn’t like there! The prices are good and we always have leftovers for later! Also, their desserts are so good! No matter how full I am, I always get a dessert and cafe con leche before I leave! I would definitely recommend it!
Excellent food. Ordered the tostones and a bacalaito for appetizers. And we got two orders of roast pork with arroz con gandules and avocado and tomato salads. And just before walking out the door we decided on a flan (wife) and budin de pan (me). Before we arrived home the bacalaito was history as were the tostones. I kept licking my lips which continued to taste of garlic and plaintain. Yum. The pork was moist and well seasoned and the arroz con gandules also featured green olives which is just the way I like it. I haven’t had authentic Puerto Rican cooking since I sold my condo in Isla Verde some twenty years ago. This meal was stepping back in time. I can hardly wait for next week so I can get there for mofongo with pork. And they also make pasteles. I may be a mainlander but I have a Puerto Rican stomach and this is just the place for it. This is basically a take out but they do have a couple of tables out front just in case you can’t wait to feast.
