Worst service. While the food was pretty good (especially the mac and cheese) we had the worst service that we have experienced in Sarasota in a long time. The waiter actually apologized for forgetting us (there were only 10-12 tables occupied), but then proceeded to disappear again. We had to flag him down to get our check. We will not go back.

The food was subpar and the fried chicken was bland and service was horrendous! My friend had the coconut cake and we all bit into it and it tasted like the refrigerator : (

Awesome Place. Good comfort food and fantastic entertainment. If you like both of those I highly recommend this place. The flank steak and meatloaf were awesome!

Excellent Food, Atmosphere, Service & Live Music. I’m told by our Sarasota hosts/ friends, this is a new restaurant/ bar in Sarasota. Here’s hoping The Blue Rooster is a success, because it is a vibrant, happening spot with excellent Southern cuisine in a beautiful space with great live music.6 for dinner on a warm Saturday night in early April. A great band was on-stage, the house was packed and hopping. Southern food was great. Fried chicken was excellent, as were the sides such as cheese grits. The only miss was the fried green tomato app. It was bland, nowhere near as good as over at Owen’s Fish Camp, another excellent Sarasota restaurant. Other than that, the food was superb, well worth multiple return visits…The space is very nice- open, clean and easy to navigate. Service was friendly and attentive and the owners seem to support local live music- kudos to them!

God I hope this works. I really wanted to like Blue Rooster! I’m sure it will be fine once they find their stride… Got seated immdiately on busy weeknight. It’s going to be a great place for folks who like the music/food thing. I for one, just care about the food. Host was awesome and server tried hard… you can tell they’re proud of their new place, and should be… We will probably go back, maybe for Savor Sarasota when the prices aren’t as steep…. biscuits were great, but wonder if they’re really homemade if they’re hex shape…hmmm…. read someone else’s opinion on hard butter… agreed: ours was too firm… pepper jelly: embarassing! I literally turned it out of it’s ramekin like a little aspic timbale. It looked like a mini head cheese, had the same texture and tasted of raw bell pepper…ecchh… how bout trying it with pectin, not gelatin? lived in the south a long time but didn’t grow up here… please tell me southerners don’t actually like this stuff? we even commented to the manager, and he confessed it was being ‘tweaked’…huh? don’t serve it if it ain’t right. My companiion ordered chicken & waffles… it was the best thing of the night, moist, crisp and obviously injected. My shrimp & grits were hit & miss… grits: good… shirmp: too much char flavor and overcooked… and why is there a fruity component on this dish? I think it was peach salsa–clashed with the other flavors. Dessert: small and underwhelming; buttermilk pie served too cold so any hope of delicate flavor or tangy nuance was lost, and chocolate cake, second best thing of the night…while I scarfed it down, was pricey for what we got. Overall: c+ These seemed like genuine, hard working people, and hope they get it right.. will go back and try again when the dust settles.

Something Different,Finally. Cool ,awesome new vibe for Sarasotans ! Really good food, not something that I would eat every day ,though there are some healthier alternatives on the menu. Really prompt service and everyone is so friendly. The music is great also.Live almost every night.

The Blues have arrived in Sarasota. Opened just a few weeks ago, The Blue Rooster offers live music as well as dinner. The music often starts later in the evening so check the website for times. We were too early for the entertainment but not for the food. The menu is limited, this is not an everything anyone may want place. The offerings are southern. I tried the Chicken and Waffles, a Blue Rooster specialty. Ive never had Chicken and Waffles before so it is easy for me to say it was the best Ive ever had. Seriously, the concept of dipping fried chicken in maple syrup was awesome. I had not thought this through before. And at The Blue Rooster the maple syrup is something even better, a Maple Bourbon Cane syrup. The dish also comes with a second sauce that changes from day to day.I question the value vs cost. Prices seem high, in my case $20 + tax and tip for a small waffle, three pieces of fried chicken including a wing, and the sauces. If you overlook this point, we had a good dinner. Service was very good, maybe some of the startup kinks are getting worked out. Parking is a problem. The place was busy, both the lot in the back and across the street were full.
