I dined at this restaurant with my two children and wife for my Birthday (02-07-16). My wife asked me to choose between Shari Sushi on Central blvd. and Amura on Church street and I chose Amura which I now regret! We had a really bad service experience. We arrived around 5:15 and our Server was Diego. Diego greeted our table in a very informal way, always leaning on the back of the booth, more in line with a sports bar as opposed to a great restaurant which was our previous experience at this establishment. He was not kind and welcoming, but rather short and unwelcoming. We ordered our drinks: Two sprites, wine and Sapporo 20 oz which he brought without a glass as if I were to drink from the bottle of a 20oz beer; again not in line with the atmosphere of a great restaurant but rather more in line with a person loitering at 7-11 convenience store. I asked for a glass which he brought to me carried with his hand on the rim of the glass (where you would drink from) which is unsanitary and not in line with a Server with any experience or class; again not in line with the atmosphere of a great restaurant or our previous experience at this establishment. We ordered three courses: The first course was 3 orders of Miso soup. The Second was Edemame and Coconut Shrimp appetizers. The third course was 5 Spicy Tuna rolls and 4 Mex rolls. The soup came first which was broth ONLY with diced green onions as a garnish. NO tofu or kelp. Our appetizers came no less than 1 minute later and our main course came, only 1 minute later. I looked at my wife and stated (in front of Diego) ‘he didn’t stagger out the courses!’..Deigo said nothing. In an effort to enjoy my Birthday dinner, we accepted this and tried to enjoy the food. Diego did not return to the table to ask if everything was good or if we wanted refills and only returned once the food was finished to ask If he could get us anything else. We would have ordered dessert but we were so disappointed with Diego that we wanted to leave. We asked for the check which was brought to us without the table being cleared. We stacked the dishes at the end of the table hoping they would be cleared; only half of the dishes were taken by Diego with a ‘Thanks’ to show his gratitude for us dining in Amura. My wife (being the kind person she is) left him a 15% tip. In my opinion, it should have been a lot less. On a positive note. The Appetizers and Sushi were great as always. I have been to this establishment (downtown location) many times in the past and have always had an excellent experience and I am perplexed as to why Diego was not professional. Our prior server was an incredibly kind and positive female server. Those prior experiences made us come back, instead of going to Shari multiple times. Avoid Diego.
I created this account just for this. Since moving to Florida, this was my first bad experience. Ive worked in the restaurant business for 14 years and love to have one night out once in a while. My fiance and I went here, we were told by the hostess to have a seat and she’d follow us with menus. After sitting there for ten minutes we walked out. … walking by her, as she SAT at the front door, never saying a word. Lazy. She should be fired for losing business and wasting their money. Get off your butt girl …. treat others the way they should be treated, as guests…. LAZY LAZY LAZY
