Down side; they allow smoking. Upside, great drinks, great service, great food. Ceviche rocks! Do your Duval thing then get to Stock island for some really good food.
A dear friend that lives in Key West took us slightly off the beaten path to this wonderful place. Very low key on the water.. picnic tables.. cold beer.. Grouper cheeks are a must try and the fish tacos were outstanding. Will return when in Key West again.
Great food, great atmosphere. Parking is annoying, only downside is we sat in the sun which was fine but we went through water so fast and waitress didn’t check in very often, another waitress ended up just leaving a pitcher on our table. Crab cakes, ribs, Hogfish sandwich all were fantastic.
Ok…place was cool, but this place is highly overrated. Got the lobster bisque and some shrimp—both were excellent; however, the General got some fish tacos (nothing to write home about!). The ‘coup de gras’ were the numerous black flies we had to swat out of our face during our dining experience (those are free). Wait staff was courteous and more than accommodating, but the food just didn’t WOW us.
Well worth the drive to Stock Island. The signature hogfish sandwich is excellent. The grouper Ruben is also excellent. The sides and salads are also good. Outdoor seating or inside the huge tiki hut.
Ate here after a deep sea fishing trip. Took the captains with us for lunch. They cooked our fresh Blackfin Tuna three different ways, all of which were superb! Have also had the chicken tacos here which were also delicious! This place is fantastic!!
The Hogfish Grill. The place where the Conchs go. Populated by Fresh Water Conchs as well. I learned a little vernacular on my trip to The Conch Republic.1st things 1st. If you are bothered by being in a mostly outdoor type of place where people will be smoking, then this may not be your place. If you can adjust to that, then you are in for a treat. The wife and I stopped in on a strong recommendation of friends and it’s no wonder why they were so eager to have us try the place. It exudes Keys atmosphere. A rambling type of joint sitting at the docks on Stock Island at Safe Harbor Marina. You know you are there because you see cars and trucks occupying every nook & cranny possible up and down the street. We walked in, were quickly seated at an outside table. Out waitress come over quickly with menus and water. She gave a few minutes and returned for drink orders. After reviewing the menu, I opted for Grouper Cheeks and the Hogfish Sandwich. My wife opted for the Lobster Bisque and Lobster Quesadilla. The bisque was hands down fantastic! The Grouper Cheeks were very good although I thought them a tad over fried. The Hogfish Sandwich I got grilled and was not at all disappointed. I tried a little of the Lobster Quesadilla but nearly got my had wacked off for it. What I had was great though. All in all this is a place that I would return to as well as highly recommend to anyone traveling to the Keys.Note about our server Cathy. Ask for her by name. She is very good at her job and will take care of your table.
