After all the hype we were kind of let down with Ellie’s. It’s small and quaint, good location, but tight parking. The outdoor section was cute, but it was pouring so we settled for inside. Decor is a mish mash, along with really wobbly chairs. Music was played on a bluetooth speaker, a little loud but the constant clicking from the person typing was enough to make your eye twitch. Also, please choose a benign playlist. This is Ellie’s Diner, not the club. The hardcore rap with massively obscene lyrics was totally out of line. I was eating lunch with my Mother. Awkward! Our server was very pleasant. She was patient with questions, and always had a smile. Between the three of us we ordered the roast beef sandwich, the BLT salad, and the Monte Cristo. I’ll start with the bad. The Monte Cristo was horrible. Almost inedible. A good amount of thinly sliced meat, almost no cheese to speak of, all stacked on cheap, sliced white bread and drenched in fake syrup. It was more like soggy french toast. Next up, the BLT salad…with fake bacon out of a jar. The rest of the salad was nice, fresh greens and crumbled blue cheese. However, bacon bits out of a jar does not a BLT salad make. Do whatever you have to do, but for the love of God please use real bacon. And lastly, the roast beef. It was great. A little on the cold side, but really good. The pasta salad was really good too, just an over abundance of celery. Now for the potato salad. It was my husbands side. He hates potato salad with a passion, but between that and slaw or pasta salad it was the lesser of three evils. He decided to try it anyway. He declared it delicious and pretty much scraped the bowl clean. I was able to snatch a small taste, and indeed it was tasty. Will we return? Probably. I’d sit outside or get it to go the next time around. The sandwiches seem like a safe bet, and I’d come back for that potato salad.
Go-look-order-enjoy: youwill come back. Ken brosemanour first time there. will go back and bring friends, everyone nice and pleasant, haley our waitress and the counter persons all the best. we had 2 pastromi sandwiches with different fixings that were prepared on toasted rye that exceeded our expectations at a reasonable price. do not be in a hurry, you should perhaps slow down and enjoy the fresh outside air in an old town atmosphere where they will not be rushed. 3/16/2015 ken broseman p s l
