Would Have Potential if the Service Was Better and the Kitchen Could get Food out in Under an Hour. Went to Mermaid for the 1st time early Saturday night (about 7pm) the place is very plain looking but it does appear to be clean. We came here for one thing only the food. They were not that busy yet but I could tell things were looking unorganized. Lots of guys standing behind the bar not doing anything meanwhile the food runners (all female) seemed like they could use some help. We stood in line at the bar for some time before someone took our order. We got the Kefta Burger, the Coup de Gras Burger, and the Truffle fries. We sat at a table outside, after waiting 40 minuts our food had not arrived yet so I went inside and asked, they said they are working on it right now and will be out in a few. About 10 min later one of the older guys from behind the bar came out with our burgers and dropped one of them just as he got to our table. They remade it and got a new one out to us in about 10 min. 1 hour ticket times for 2 burgers is WAY to long! it should only take 10 to 12 min to get an order up. As for the food itself, the burgers are on small buns and stacked way to tall so it’s basically impossible to eat like a burger. I pulled the skewer out of it and just ate all the parts separately. I could tell that they use good quality ingredients and everything was cooked well but overall we were both unimpressed with the taste. There are lots of gourmet burger places in Tampa where better can be had. This place just is not customer service focused enough, they need to better manage the staff and remind them that they are working at a job not just hanging out with friends. Please find out why the kitchen is sooooo slow and fix it!!!We are not planning on coming back.

We’ll be back!. Loved the Truffle Fries!!! The hummus was one of the best I’ve ever had! The burger was delicious. My husband loved the fish & chips. The place looks like a dive bar, the food lives up to the 4.6 star reviews.

Awesome place, great atmosphere and good food. The only negative thing I can think of was one time I went the DJ was a little rude but other than that love this place!

Cutting-Edge Craft Beer Bar. I wandered into this little gem a few months ago and they have the most eclectic and comprehensive tap selection in the area. It was really mind-blowing. Virtually none of the expected stuff and with just 24 taps they manage to keep my attention better that WOB or Brass Tap! The trick is constant rotation. I hit Mermaid once or twice a week, and have taken to their food as well. Big thumbs up to the Portabella Napoleon!

Great Time, Great Food!. My wife and I were here for an early dinner before heading to South Tampa. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the food and wine were spot-on. That was probably the best burger I have had in this city and I have tried them all. Our All-A-Board cheese plate was top-notch, huge and very well priced. Please keep doing whatever it is that you are doing!

I first went here over a year ago, the food was fantastic. Presented beautifully and tasted amazing. Recently I returned and was beyond disappointed a totally different experience. Food was sloppy looking. Tasted like nothing and my burger burnt. They must have changed staff for it was one extreme of amazing to the worst food in Tampa besides fast food. Do not recommend to anyone.

Best bar in Tampa. Went with friends on Saturday night and had an amazing time, got right in and had our food in a reasonable time, despite no reservations and 8 people! (they don’t do advanced bookings or full-serve). This is like many of the taverns I spent time in when I lived in the UK only I think that the fish-n-chips are even better at Mermaid. Intense selection of beer and wines and some of the best prices around. I bought a bottle of wine for $42 here that I had at Charley’s 2 weeks ago where I paid $80 bucks! The food was also quite reasonable when you compare quality anywhere else. My new favorite!
