Good little neighborhood spot. Simple snacks, baked goods and sandwiches. My husband loves the Croissant sandwiches. It wouldn’t be somewhere I would take someone to meet up for lunch or coffee but it would be a place to stop in a grab something to go.
Glad we have this place in Tampa. Great food & service.
Great Food, Great Service and Value. Great Food at a great value.Service staff is friendly and provides great service.Has been a great addition to the Seminole Heights neighborhood. We will be customers for a very long time.
Great cakes & bakes. Recently ordered a cake from the Seminole Heights location. I was given the attention and care I was hoping for given the special celebration I was ordering the cake for. On short notice, the baker worked long into the night to finish my cake, and was there after hours to let us in to get this cake in time. While there, I grabbed a croissant turkey sandwich, and while I usually order this from places because it’s a relatively tame and bland sandwich, the Mikey’s sandwich was out of this world. Good pies and cakes in the dessert cooler, and a nice array of niche market and nostalgic sodas. I will look for excuses to go down this way again so I can stop and eat there!
Average Food. I remember seeing the old Pickford’s Sundries on my way to school way back when and I have to admit my curiosity was piqued just a bit when I saw there was a new resident in the old landmark. I took my mother along as she cherishes getting to spend time with her only son on at lunch as she can prattle on and on while I simply nod my head.Anyway…down to business! The place was very clean and had a lot of open room so you weren’t crammed in anywhere. There were a few other patrons sitting at some of the other tables. The menu isn’t extensive by any means and prices were just a tad higher than average I thought considering what you ended up getting. My mother ordered the cheesesteak with chips and I had the hot reuben with a pickle. When I venture out to new places with people we always make sure to order different things so we can swap bits and pieces and get a better taste for the food served. On the side I also ordered a Caesar salad and my mother asked for a slice of their chocolate raspberry cake.Anyway, iced tea obviously came out first and it was in two really cool and unique looking glasses that would look at home holding a milkshake but not iced tea. It was a nice touch and the tea was clearly brewed and not instant. It was nice and strong and very cold. It did take awhile to make the sandwiches despite having a healthy crew of people behind the counter and only one other table waiting for an order. The sandwiches came out with some steam still coming from the meat which is something that always pleases me. My corned beef had a nice flavor. The sauerkraut was raw and very crunchy. I think they could have done with adding a little more meat and a little less kraut personally. The bread was soft and toasted right but nothing special and didn’t have much of a rye or pumpernickel taste to it despite it being swirled with both. The pickle was large but overall just OK as it tasted like it came from a wholesale jar of vlasic pickles from Sams Club or BJ’s. I like my pickles to be a bit more garlicky or sour and this one just had a sweeter note to it.My mothers Cheesesteak was nothing special to write home about. It was just an average cheesesteak sandwich that had more bread than meat really compared to some I’ve seen around the bay area. It was much like something you’d get at any restaurant that doesn’t specialize in cheesesteaks – a safe, albeit boring, meal. I had almost finished my sandwich when a worker came over and advised me that the caesar salad I had ordered and been told was coming shortly several times wasn’t going to be happening because they were out of Caesar dressing. Why this message wasn’t passed along sooner I’m not sure but anyway, they refunded my money promptly and without and hassles (you pay first here).I think the most disappointing part of the meal was the cake though. Admittedly I’m not a big cake person (I prefer pie) but my mother is and that’s why she was excited to order a slice. The cake was more like a slab than a slice as it was about the same size as Wright’s cuts theirs. It did indeed look very appealing. The icing looked firm and was a very clean shade of white – almost pure – with a raspberry swirl throughout the top of the cake. The actual cake itself looked moist and dense. The taste of the cake left much to be desired however as both of us simply found it to be odd tasting. The raspberry swirl was almost gummy-like and came off in a strip rather than just blending in with the rest of the cake as it was cut. The icing had an oddly metallic taste to it and was rather bland as was the actual cake itself. It was indeed moist but the lack of flavor and strange tasting icing made us both leave about 2/3 of the cake on the plate to be taken away. The other thing I don’t particularly like about this place is an undefined tipping policy. There’s a tip jar at the counter where you have to originally order your food but then you also get table service as far as drink refills, etc. So we were both a little confused as to who to tip and ended with leaving a few bucks in the jar at the counter on the way out instead of anything on the table itself. Overall it’s nothing special here. The food is safe, but bland, there’s nothing particularly unique or adventurous on the menu. For what amounts to about the same amount of money I’d prefer going to Wright’s instead.
Great bakery goods!. Went to visit a fiend, stopped here and bought the pie for after dinner and cinnamon scones for breakfast. Pie was heavenly and everyone said the scones were the best they’d ever had. I agreed. If you’re a scone purist, you might not like as the texture was lighter, not so dense as they always are. But, that’s why we liked them. It is very retro inside, the place has been around for decades, I believe.I would recommend this place. All the foods in the case were mouthwatering and they have a large selection of whole pies, many different flavors.
A great place for lunch!. My dad and I recently went to Custom Creations for lunch. The lure was egg creams – a drink from my dad’s childhood in Brooklyn. It has milk, seltzer and chocolate syrup. Other syrups are available too. I thought they were good, but my dad said they needed to be a little creamier. We both had the Philly Cheesesteak and it was quite good. Cooked to order and served on fresh cuban bread… it was a generous sandwich that was hard to finish! The desserts looked awesome but we were too full. The restaurant is quite charming – its in an old drug store and many of the original fixtures are still in use. If you’re looking for a delicious lunch in a fun setting, this is the place for you!
