I placed an order for lunch at the walk up window. I was told they would let me know when it was ready. I sat on a bench and waited for 20 minutes. I then went back to the window to ask if it was going to be much longer and was told it had been sitting there, but they forgot to tell me it was ready. I got it, went back to my office and found it to be cold, extremely greasy and not very tasty, either. I had pulled chicken and pulled pork. The biscuit was sitting in all of the grease in the container and after using 5 paper towels to try and blot out some of the grease, I ate enough to sustain me and threw the rest away. The Cole slaw was very dry and had virtually no flavor. The collards were decent, but cold. I won’t go back. The bill was over $20, but certainly wasn’t worth it.

I wasn’t really expecting much anyway because it’s a chain. But since i haven’t found or heard of any good bbq here in Tallahassee I thought I’d give it a shot. Especially since I heard they had Burnt Ends. The only meat I tried was the burnt ends because noone else in Tallahassee offers that to my knowledge. This is a delicacy in the bbq world if you are lucky enough to have them served right. This was not. This was basically shredded, finely chopped brisket with very few microscopic crumbs of the sought after charred bits. It should be chunks, people. Chunks. And it should be drier and smokier. This looked like it had been put in a food processor. The meat was oily and salty and not even that smokey and I was annoyed that they sauced the pile without asking if I wanted it sauced. I would have asked them not to had i seen it happening. I would have liked to have tasted the flavor of the meat without the mediocre sauce. Or would I? The pile was very oily which may have been ok of it was put on top of a piece of white bread to sop it up. I don’t think i have ever had bbq without that fabulous little piece of bread that gets soaked with flavor and dissapears. I really missed that damn bread. Bbq is not supposed to be served with a biscuit! Now let’s talk about the sauce options-not that great. There were only two different ones that I saw out on the tables and they were very similar to each other. Nothing spicy or mustardy. The baked beans and potato salad were pretty good and the bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeos were kinda fun. I probably won’t go back but if I do I will bring my own bread.

Best BBQ in Tallahassee? Hardly. Baked beans– not bad, a bit too sweet. Collards– pretty good, sweet with a little vinegar. Fries– stale, with a rancid lard finish. The biscuit– a brick (easily the most dense pastry dough I have ever encountered). Sauces — basically reddish sugar syrup, bleh. But the brisket– oversalted and underseasoned with no real flavor at all. It looked like BBQ but didn’t taste like BBQ. Was it parboiled? Baked in an oven? Who knows. Good BBQ in Tallahassee comes and goes but is invariably not from a sit down place. Last I checked there was E&J, a camper parked off South Monroe near FAMU (Fri Sat?); Mo Betta BBQ, in the gas station parking lot corner of Apalachee and Capitol Circle. Try either one. You will never confuse 4 rivers smokehouse with real BBQ again.

Been to 4 Rivers many times and the food is always delicious. I usually get the Smoked chicken with mac and cheese and another side. My only complaint would be that the green beans and corn taste like they were just dumped from the can. But you don’t go to a smokehouse for the veggie’s.

Had lunch here right before they got slammed, It was okay, but the burnt ends that I had were overcooked and dry. The veggies were ok. I bought some of the coffee rub, which I then took home and made the best babybacks I have ever had. Certainly didn’t live up to the hype, but will revisit in the future just to see.

Great atmosphere and food. We really enjoyed the burnt ends and pulled pork. The sides are just a delious topping to a good meal. We love the outdoor seating area. We’ll be back!

Bbblock. Terrible-ate there twice and totally different than the wonderful food at their Jacksonville location.
