Finally gave this place a try, and was not disappointed. Great food, nice place, Had the buffet which had good choices. The butter Chicken was Fabulous. Also, the Tandori Chicken was nice and juicy, not cooked to death like most other places. Plus, none of the dishes were very hot (spicy)(they do have sauces on the side if you want to kick it up a notch or two) so if you don’t like Indian food because it’s too spicy, you should try Essence. Prince, our server was Great, Impeccable service.

This review is purely based on lunch buffet-not ordering off of the menu. Many different items on the lunch buffet but everything seemed very thinned out yet a little too salty. A few items weren’t hot enough-barely warm. I prefer the quality around the corner at Mayuri.

Been wanting to visit this place for years so finally got my opportunity during lunch a couple of weeks back. My date and I elected to try their lunch buffet and that turned out to be a really good decision. The naan was outstanding and was even better when dipped in the various gravies/sauces that accompanied the chicken dishes on the buffet. I’m not going to act like I’m an expert on Indian cuisine but I do know great tasting food and Essence of India has that. I’ll update this when I return and check out their specialties.

One of our first times trying Indian cuisine. Very good for the novice to this spicy cuisine. Lots of flavor. Great service! Not all food is spicy, so give it a try even if your palate prefers milder favors.

Decent so far. Ive only had EOI a few times, all were for takeout. Two times we had their Meal for Two. It comes with Soup (Dislike- has a pasty texture to it), Samosa (Like), Chicken Pakora (Like), Onion Bhaji (Like), Papadum (Dislike- just didn’t favor the taste/texture) Two Curries of your choice (Like- Their curries are flavorful) and for dessert, Gulab Jamun (We disliked because it was VERY sweet..like..drinking corn syrup right out of the bottle) Their Naan breads are also very good and their chutneys are amazing! Their mango and mint chutneys are yummy. When all we had left was rice, we would eat it plain with the chutneys.

All About the Lassi. First of all: if you have never had the semisweet lassi drink that is offered here, do yourself a favor and get it. This was by far the most memorable thing I have had here. The na’an bread is offered in many different flavors, and they each are tasty in their own right. Top them with the different chutneys that come with lunch or dinner. I had the vegetable pakora for an appetizer and the Chicken Tandoori for an entree’. The chicken was well flavored and tender. Still I urge you-LASSI. Make sure to try it at least once.

The Best Meal You’ll Ever Have!. Essence of India is by far my favorite restaurant in Tallahassee. The lunch special ($7.95 M-Sa, 11am-2pm) comes with the house soup – usually a vegetable or similar – and salad with onion chutney and Italian dressing, your choice of entree (BUTTER CHICKEN!!) with unlimited basmati rice and naan, and dessert…usually a DELIGHTFUL rice pudding that helps cool down the pallet. You will be immediately hooked as soon as you walk in. The aroma of this restaurant is unlike any other, and the service is always fantastic. You will absolutely not be disappointed if you give this wonderful place a try. TRUST ME that you too will become an Essence of India regular!
