  For 2.5 years I have looked for a very young good Chinese food restaurant. I found it after trying 10 or so other places all over town. Shrimp egg foo young, pork fried rice, and wonton soup was delicious and made just how I like it. Can’t wait to go back and try some other dishes. Food was hot and takeout was good.

  Formerly great. I used to go here all the time when it was called North China Gourmet and owned by a feisty Chinese lady. The food was delicious, but eventually she had to return to China b/c her mother was in poor health and it ended up going to the King House Buffet people who had recently closed their decent little Chinese buffet that I’d enjoyed going to for several years. They have a small lunch buffet now and it’s ok, better than the food made to order, which is more Americanized and no longer what it used to be. The quality is inconsistent and they have definitely been going downhill for about 2 years or more. While people come in to pick up takeout now and then, there is rarely more than one other dining-in patron in the restaurant and even though the service is pleasant, the lack of other diners makes one uncomfortable. They need to seriously step up their game and make some changes if they want to stop the downward slide. A lot of people were expecting them to have both a lunch and dinner buffet when the ownership changed, but they ignored the customers and I think lost their former King House customers as a result. I won’t go so far as to give them a thumbs down, but I can no longer recommend them. It’s probably the best Chinese in that little northern area of town around I-10, but there’s not much competition.

  Better Options Available. Against my better judgment I stopped at King House for lunch. Their menu offers the standard Americanized fare found at most Chinese restaurants. I settled on the beef and broccoli lunch special. The majority of the meal was made up of fried rice which had an off flavor and was inedible. The beef and broccoli portion size was small and average in flavor. The egg roll was tiny and flavorless. I will not go back. sweetteaandbourbon.com

  Awesome little gem food is great and even the buffet though small is very good.
