Fine Example of Tallahassee’s Best. Off the beaten pathIncredible food and wineGreat place for a date
Spent over $400 the other night at Sage. The pork chops and bread were outstanding. The sweetbreads served on a mush of grits was absolutely revolting. Whatever was inside the overfried breaded material tasted like spoiled chicken livers. I noted this on the credit card receipt, left a 20% tip and left. The waiter came out to the parking lot and apologized. Too late for me. I won’t be going back.
Just Don’t Order a Sandwich. I’ve had great brunches at Sage and their fresh salads are made from locally sourced ingredients and are always a fine choice. The service is usually very attentive, coffee refilled frequently and servers knowledgeable of the daily specials. On New Year’s Eve, I went with several friends for an early lunch. One of my friends was served a lovely salmon nestled on a bed of root vegetables and, as a side, had a delicately breaded and fried oysters. The presentation was lovely and the food was delicious. Mistakenly, I ordered the portobella pressed sandwich. What I received looked like it came from a different restaurant. Pressed between two slices of baquette were soggy, thin slices of eggplant and tiny, lifeless pieces of portobella mushrooms, with a thin layer of something melted on one side of the bread–possibly cheese and some ‘roasted’ red peppers straight from the jar. There was no garnish on the plate, no side, nothing but the sad, flavorless sandwich. My conclusion? Stick to salads or the main entrees and skip the sandwiches at Sage.
‘Creative soup’ was progressive or Campbell’s with garnish (machine cut carrots, potatoes, salty). Thick ceramic coffee mugs (not Pre-warmed) = warming coffee. Good coffee aside from serving temperature & served on saucers with cut up menu pieces (cute). Tables had real linen table cloths, but glass on top and smeary. I had the roasted beet and orange salad (with goat cheese), sounded delish! Couldn’t taste it b/c it was drenched in some packaged Italian dressing. I wasn’t given the option to have it on the side (menu made no mention of it that I recall). Reminded me of Mickey’s at Lake Ella … They want to look nice, but they serve Pre-packaged foods. The Beets in the salad were also from a jar, not sure about the ‘roasted’ label. Was excited by the positive ratings, but it seems to be nothing more than a popular lunch spot for the NE side of town, not a foodie destination.
My server went above and beyond to provide the best dining experience I have had in Tallahassee and each dish was perfectly prepared. This is my top pick for fine dining in town.
FAVE Gourmet in Tally!!!. This is a lovely oasis in a non cosmopolitan town such as Tallahassee. Great wine! I have been a few times and just adore everything from the decor to the beautiful pieces of artwork Sage calls food. The taste matches the aesthetics and I couldn’t be more pleased with this restaurant.
Went for dinner with a group of friends. The starters were good but the entrees were not good at all. Rough cuts of meat, cold vegetables, overall a bad experience and I would not go back.
