Many, many lunches at the Mahan location and more than a few take-home dinners. Always great food and pleasant staff. It’s gotten a bit expensive over the years, so I can’t visit as often as I’d like.
I don’t trust the cooks!. I say this because they are inconsistent with the cooking. The first time I went was enjoyable. The second time some items were nearly burnt and the portion sizes seemed smaller. The third time sealed the deal as it was similar to the second visit. When I told the lady at the counter, she nodded her head as if she had heard this complaint before. She also suggested having the items broiled versus fried… How about they just learn to fry it correctly? Unfortunately, I intend to travel to crystal river next time we want fish — though it’s more expensive and a longer drive, at least I’ve never gotten tiny pieces of fish and burnt crab cakes — I just don’t trust these cooks enough to give another try and waste money.
RUDE OWNER- Tallahassee, FL Apalachee Pkwy. Dont get me wrong, the food is good but not that good to have to deal with a rude owner. It was lunch time, they were busy, and I was next in line. The owner saw me waiting patiently but intentionally helped everyone else (who was white by the way… Im a 29 yr old black female) before even acknowledging me. She heard me tell another customer that I called over 30 minutes ago (they told me 20 min) and that I needed to get back to work so it seemed at if she did it on purpose. I mean she refilled people’s drinks, got them to go boxes, laughed and gave them great customer service but when it was time for me to get my order I did not receive the same treatment. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! My husband cooks better seafood anyway! 🙂
Excellent Seafood!. When I entered the Wharf Express at Mahan there was only one other customer as it was in the late afternoon. There were two employees at the counter and neither acknowledged me, said hello, nor smiled. It was about a minute before they even agreed to acknowledge me and even at that they continued their conversation with each other. Where I would have stood to place my order I had to step to the right because money and paperwork were on the counter. Then throughout my meal I had to listen to the lady who was previously doing the bank deposit at the counter talk about her personal business.UPDATE: Have returned several times and the service has been good. The food is always excellent and offers some of the best seafood in the region.

Will keep coming back!. We have been eating here since they were across the street. Great seafood and everything always so fresh. My husband loves the catfish plate and I love the Ceasar or garden salad with chicken or shrimp. Vegetables plentiful and fresh. Our granddaughter tried the Mahi Mahi last night and says that’s the best fish she’s had in a long time. The green beans are an excellent side choice. Take out just as good and my office had them cater our staff retreat recently and everyone was very pleased. No complaints.
Great food, awesome value!. My family and I came for dinner and I had the whole flounder on special, my husband had the blue crab claws and my teenage son had the chicken po boy. There was so much food that none of us could finish it all! I highly recommend for value and quality!
