Banana Nut Bread Supreme is where it’s at! This is our favorite dessert at BB. When we used to live closer we would go just for dessert and get this with a cup of coffee and sit and watch boats pull in and if it was a weekend – listen to live music. This place definitely offers the florida style waterfront atmosphere and is great for taking visitors when they arrive into Tampa airport because it’s so close. The food is hit or miss. I typically stick with the Ahi Tuna Stack appetizer and pick a fish entree or special. We have been here at least 100 times in the last 3 years. We mainly go for the atmosphere and decent priced dinner and dessert.
I was staying across the street and decided to give it a try. Yes it’s a chain but it is petty dang good. Went there twice while in town and it was hoping both times. Even with all the people the service was fast and the food was great. Had the fish tacos one night and the Ropa Vieja the next. Both were awesome. My favorite side was the fresh fruit and mango sorbet. Will definitely come back when I’m in town.
Coconut shrimp tasty and the avocado and crab salad was great. Oysters on the half shell were tiny though. Service was ok and my real strawberry mojito had no strawberry pieces in it. 🙁
I have to rate low because you can smoke outside… Come on! I want to enjoy the beautiful breeze and water views without inhaling your nasty smoke. I have found this at most places in Florida – Hey Florida, catch up with other states that realize 2nd hand smoke is a NASTY HABIT and people care about their air!?! Tiffany was very nice at outdoor bar and sympathetic to my annoyance at the stupid smokers. I’m sorry that Bahama Breeze doesn’t care about the health of their employees. And with that… I can’t even rate the food because I’ve already had an awful experience here.
Do not eat here!. We just got home from bahama breeze after eating here for Mother’s Day this evening. This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had.First and foremost the clientele at this restaurant is absolutely horrendous. It was the congregation of what looked like the trash of Tampa. The people were like savages hovering around our table waiting for us to finish eating so they could take our table b/c they don’t take reservations. I was disgusted by not only the trashy, inconsiderate patrons but the food was disgusting. My chicken pasta was bland. My husbands salmon was cold. It was awful. And then this was the absolute icing on the cake. My brother in law ordered a beer and when they brought it to the table, the glass was completely covered with pink lipstick around the rim. It looked like they didn’t even bother to clean the glass. I was absolutely repulsed. This place is sad and so are the customers. I will absolutely never ever ever return to this restaurant. In fact I would pay to never have to eat at this establishment again. Biggest waste of money and truly feel gross. This restaurant is a perfect candidate for a dirty dining segment from one of the local news outlets. Absolutely terrible.
Hunger Humbles. The problem with vanity is that is willing to ignore common sense and basic needs. Late for a concert at the Capitol, I insisted on using the curling iron as I waited for my recently painted toenails to dry. Of course I was hungry. When am I not hungry? Decided to drink some water and pretend I was simply dehydrated. Barely made it on time and avoided a Diana Krall scolding. I did not know how lucky I was by arriving just in time. Miss Krall did speak directly to a woman who was talking on her cell phone as she was about to begin her third song. Point blank and with her distinctly husky voice said: its okay. I have kids too. Go ahead and speak. I will wait for you so you dont miss the song.) I am lucky. That happens to me and I break up in hives and my fake eyelashes go Betty Boop on me. Smelled popcorn. An old man sitting across from me kept munching on it. I figured I could be flirty and maybe ask for his phone number as an exchange of some kernels. Saved my dignity and bought myself some yellow popped air to keep me busy and distract the pang of emptiness in my stomach. Kept reminiscing about the many restaurants I saw as I drove and got the car parked. Would they get Broadway busy by the time the concert was done? Should I risk Krall wrath, use my cell phone, google map nearby places and make a reservation? It was just too risky. As it turned out… I have a great imagination. The many lights I had believed to be restaurants were mostly closed stores, realty offices, hair salons, and just closed for the night eateries. Unbelievable! A Friday night filled with promise gone bad. There was a pizza place that claimed they had Worlds Best Pizza. Should I go Elf on them and hug them? One of my friends suggested Bahama Breeze. Let me be candid here. I distrust any place that reminds me of Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Caf, Rainforest Caf and such. Call me a food snob. I own it. But, starvation humbles me. Drove to Bahama Breeze and the parking lot was packed. Live music could be heard even in the Bahamas, I swear. Huge venue. People at the entrance, people at the bar, people around the bar, people eating at the tables, servers all over the place. Although greeted by an impersonal: gimme a second without looking at me by a very busy on the phone young woman… we did not wait. We were seated immediately. Very fast service as expected in such big venue. Impersonal. As expected. But I was not there to make friends. I was there to eat. The menu offered plenty of choices for the healthy and the unhealthy. Pleased. I can be both. Enjoyed a Cuban Mojito. Not originally crafted, but drinkable and not the worse I have had. I ordered beef empanadas and those were delicious. Filled with shredded meet with crunchy potatoes and onions and carrots inside. A hint of cumin. The flour pockets filled up completely. Fried but not oily or greasy. Four empanadas. Enough to be shared, but I did not share them. The buttermilk chicken and mashed potatoes was incredible. The mashed potatoes did not belong to me, but I discreetly stretched my right arm in that direction plenty of times. The Rockefeller oysters abundantly plated accompanied by Cuban bread set at my left invited me. Perfectly baked with copious amounts of butter. Smell of fresh parmesan. No. I did not taste them. My left arm not as dexterous as my right.
Poorly handled by manager. My wife and I had dinner this evening with 2 other couples. The waiter recommended that the stone crabs were in season. Three of us tried the stone crabs for dinner- what a mistake. When we advised the waiter, he had the manager come over to hear our concerns. What a joke- the manager said thanks for letting us know. What? We spent about $250 with tips and he did not offer the 3 of us desert? Or I will pick up your drinks? Nothing.My wife and I are local so guess what- once all of the snowbirds go back, we won’t be going to Bahamas Breeze!Very disappointing. The waiter was good and the othe 3 people with us had a good meal but the manager spoiled it for all of us.
