• Great Beer Now!

  Airport food usually doesnt rank highly on anyones list. Customers are often in a hurry and only need something to fill the stomach- not a gourmet meal. If thats all you need, then a place that will satisfy your wishes is the Green Iguana, located inside Tampa, Florida Airport.I stopped by the Green Iguana on a recent weekend trip to attend the Beer Bloggers and Writers Conference. I chose this restaurant because it looked semi- interesting compared to the other handful of airport dining options in the terminal. The restaurant takes on a tropical theme and features some good, tropical drinks. The beer selection is rather weak, without a single Tampa craft beer among the ranks. You might want to stick with the liquor if you really need an adult beverage, since the brew is so ordinary.For my late lunch/earlier dinner, I decided to order one of the burgers, since the wait staff recommended them. I went with the Southwest Bacon Burger. Its a large sandwich, thick and challenging to get your mouth around. Its spicy, with chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, bacon, guacamole, pico, and fried jalapenos. I found it decent, but I didnt like the sloppiness. The beef patty crumbles as you eat, requiring the need for a fork to pick up the pieces and finish the meal. The Iggy fries, included with the meal, were rather ordinary and in hindsight, I should have paid the extra two bucks or so and ordered the sweet potato fries as a substitute. I didnt get to try them, but I saw them on other customers plates and they looked better than my fries. Food at airports doesnt usually win any awards and Green Iguana at the Tampa Airport is bound to keep the losing streak alive.   It was ok. We decided to clear security before searching out food before our flight. Green Iguana sits just after security in Airside A, and is very noticeable with green neon signs and palm trees. An island paradise. After surveying what else was available we returned to the Iguana for some lunch.I was drawn to their Cheesiest Cheese Overdose Burger, listed as their best seller, my wife their Cuban Sandwich. Both were ok, nothing really wrong, just sort of a lack of flavors. For the burger I expected the three types of cheese to be more noticeable and my wife commented on a lack of the expected flavor with her sandwich. Both came with crinkle fries, not my preferred style. For an upcharge you can substitute the fries for a few other items like a fruit cup or salad.Our server was friendly and did a very nice job. It took about 15 minutes for our food to arrive so be aware if rushed to catch a plane. We were not rushed but it was close enough that we asked for and settled the bill early. Our server was very accommodating. The seating for the Green Iguana is part of the spaciousness of the terminal.
