It is here that the yucca fries are brilliantly crispifried on the outside and perfectly pillowfried on the inside. I decided option two was the way to go so I called in an order for pickup. And Las Palmas delivered (like not literally delivered, I’m talking more metaphorically).Of course, Las Palmas Cafe always delivers. The cafe is located in a strip mall on Bruce B. Downs right near the Wal-Mart. I find myself visiting a lot while my wife is looking for used baby stuff at Once Upon a Child. There is something about those used cribs that trigger a desire to have yucca fries. I’d love to do a full review of the menu but honestly, I just can’t get passed the rice and beans and yucca fries. All three of these items consistently deliver what I am looking for. So no matter how many times I look at a crib, get hunger pangs, tell my wife I am going to Las Palmas and then pep talk myself on the way there that I am going to try something different this time, once I open the door the thought of rice, beans and yucca just cancel that pep right out. I’m glad that I’ve discovered this little gem of a cafe. Before coming here, when I wanted Cuban food I might have to wait a week or two until I can find the time to drive all the way down to La Teresita. Now, if I want it, I get it about ten minutes later. About the only thing I don’t like at Las Palmas is the dipping sauce that accompanies the yucca fries. I much prefer the La Teresita version. But that’s what they make take out for. I just bring those yucca fries home and dress them up however I want. writeclickcooklisten.blogspot.com
Went to Las Palmas tonight for dinner. The food was pretty good and the place has a nice appearance. But I have to give them one star. The problem was that I don’t enjoy having to listen to a squealing child during my entire meal. The worst part is that the child was not a customer, she belonged to one of the staff as she and her older sister, maybe 5 or 6 years old, were both behind the service counter the whole time. On top of the squealing, the big sister kept turning the volume up way too high on the background music. As I said, good enough food but I won’t be going back for about 6 years or so, after the kids grow up a little or they can leave them at home with a sitter.
The BEST Cuban in town!. This is the only place to get Cuban food in town, period. We’ve had Cuban food in Key West, but it still doesn’t compare to Las Palmas. Feeling like a sandwich? You can’t go wrong with a Cuban sandwich, Media Noche (on sweet bread), or the yummy croquette sandwich. Plate options are amazing- their vaca frita is my favorite, followed closely by the picadillo and the lechon asado. And you must try the tres leeches cake, it really is to die for!
