Not the same Paul’s changed the menu and the quality of food. They should just give up and close. Service was good. OMG the only good thing to say about the place is the server was good except I asked if the potatoes were the red skin and she said yes no they were little yellow hard things, maybe yellow marbles that’s what they seemed like. Ordered my steak med-well cut into it and blood ran into the rest of my food it was more like seared rare. Stuffed mushrooms were small with no taste. Chicken breast dinner was so small I would call it a chick breast I don’t think the poor thing made it long enough to be called a chicken .Kalamari there was no calamari in it all batter maybe that’s why it’s on the menu as Kalamari. They must have new owners that are bringing the place down, it’s a shame they used to have the best stuffed Tilapia and huge stuffed mushrooms. VERY horrible, terrible, disgusting food we have ever eaten. Brought a new friend to the restaurant had talked it up so much and was embarrassed by the quality and portion size. When we left they said I can’t beleave you paid $70 for that crap that we could make better at home for $20 and didn’t say a word. I said trust me I will say a word. Now I know why there was no one else in the restaurant. McDonalds dollar menu would have been better. Don’t waste your money or time.05 Sep, 2014They should just close the doors now! Horrible don’t waste your money. Bread was stale. Mushrooms no taste and small. Chicken and steak must have come from save a lot. Steak was supposed to be med-well was rare, potatoes were supposed to be red skin were yellow over cooked. Chicken breast must have been from a chick not yet a chicken it was so small. Kalamari as they spell it was so over breaded you couldn’t even taste the calamari in it.
Paul’s Shrimp House. Just ate at Paul’s. The Greek salad was fresh, crisp, and their special salad dressing was excellent. The shrimp were firm and wonderfully seasoned. Our waitress, Christina, was accommodating, cheerful, respectful, and informative.Great experience. Glad they moved back to Athens St. Generations of my family has been going there for decades.
Circling the drain.. From reading some past reviews of this restaurant, I don’t believe this place has always been bad. In fact, it strikes me as a fading legend of Tarpon Springs dining. Paul’s Shrimp Shop is now overpriced and bad. My first clue something was amiss was that the place was practically empty on a Saturday night. In fact, we had originally planned to dine at the much better Rusty Bellies but being a holiday weekend, were unwilling to wait upwards of an an hour for a table. Our waitress, who looked to be about 12, seated us and brought a small basket of somewhat stale country white bread, and then disappeared. After several minutes, she reappeared and took our drink order. We ordered the Pell-and-eat Shrimp and Oysters Rockefeller of which the shrimp were excellent and the oysters were good. She then disappeared inexplicably for I would guess 20 minutes before taking our order. During this time I was unable to get another refill on my drink. I think one of the other waitresses must have said something to her because afterwards her attentiveness improved, albeit not as much as we would have liked. I ordered one of the specials with what I suspect was NOT Grouper, along with obviously prepackaged and frozen shrimp and scallops. All of which were practically tasteless, for $17. The ‘Cole slaw’ was nothing more than shredded cabbage mix and a scarce amount of mayonnaise, it had no flavor whatsoever. My wife ordered the fish sandwich which was passable. Our fellow diners ordered a mediocre broiled Grouper and a side of Paul’s Potatoes which were somewhat OK, and a horrible grilled chicken which we would have sent back had our waitress been present, but remained uneaten. Our waitress disappeared again, and was gone for more than 20 minutes. the restaurant was not busy at this time. Our guess was that she was either smoking, or her boyfriend was working there someplace or something. The bottom line is we were not impressed with either the service or the food. This restaurant looks to be on it’s last legs so there’s a good chance this review will be moot in a few months anyway. If not it should be. This restaurant is being kept alive by what I call ‘The Orland Effect’ which is- Mediocre restaurants near tourist attractions which would otherwise close for lack of patronage from locals who know better are kept open by unwitting visitors who do not.
First time here, very pleased. The Mahi was perfect, my daughters had Scampi and chicken Alfredo, both were excellent. My wife got crab cakes that she didn’t like but it was a texture thing (I thought they were good). The manager came out to enquire and took them off the bill. Will certainly come back.
I don’t know why my review keeps getting deleted when it’s an honest review on a bad experience. I ate there, all of the food we had was terrible, the place was filthy and service was lacking. The smoking section is at the front door so you get to enter/exit through a cloud of cigarette smoke. The mahi was freezer burnt, the coleslaw had ZERO flavor, the tartar sauce was GRAY, the oysters rockefeller were horrible – they had a vinegar-y stuffing on top and even that was burnt, my friend had ‘shrimp scampi’ – overcooked shrimp, overcooked linguine, frozen mixed veggies carelessly tossed on top with a grease/garlic sauce under everything… the bread was dry and cold served with cold hard butter. If you want an honest opinion about this place, stop deleting this review! I’m not even joking a tiny bit when I say that this was absolutely the worst meal I’ve ever had at any restaurant anywhere.
LOVED IT. We are locals. I also work at a local restuarant that has VERY HIGH reviews. We were skeptical about dining here. Someone showed me the menu recently and I was intrigued. It was far more than I had expected! We were greeted and seated promptly, party of 5. Service was attentive. Food was GREAT. We had oysters rockefeller, bacon wrapped scallops, ahi tuna, wings and dinners. ALL was very good and the prices cant be beat! Clean bathrooms too. It was a sat nite at 630 and no wait, and I dont no why with those prices and the quality of the food. Loved it and we are going to be regulars and spread the word!!
