This place was pretty mediocre. We came at a busy time, and it seemed like they were a little understaffed, so we had to wait a bit after we were seated for the server to help us. Still, the staff was generally friendly and helpful. My biggest service complaint is that they cleared our table’s plates before everyone was done. By that time, the place had cleared out so there was no rush. It just irks me when they do that.We were excited to try some fresh local seafood…it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t anything special either. The tartar sauce tastes like it came out of a jar. The fish was just okay. The onion rings were pretty good. The seafood cakes are mostly breading with some small chunks of seafood mixed in.They charge you for splitting a plate too…They offer a seafood platter which my wife and I wanted to split, but the charge for doing that was something like $23! Also you can get bread for the table – not an appetizer, just bread – but they charge for it, too. I mean, this isn’t fine dining or anything, it’s a roadside cafe! Our server seemed embarrassed and apologized, saying it’s like a New England thing. Well, this place is actually in Florida.
Did not live up to expectations. Reading the other reviews, I was excited to try Betty’s! the staff were all friendly and welcoming. Nothing was bad but, nothing really wowed me either. Tried the onion rings, they looked wonderful but lacked flavor. Ordered a 1/2 order of the seafood platter… I was happy to have the size option. Again, looked great, but the fry batter they use lacks seasoning, disappointing.
My favorite place in Volusia. Betty’s is my family’s favorite place to eat every time we’re in the area. The clam chowder is to die for, and I always have difficulty choosing between the Seared Ahi Tuna and the Lobster bites.I often do lunch & dinner so I can have everything I want… I’m on vacation, I can splurge.Themed with Elvis & Marilyn, go on someone’s birthday and the whole place gets jumpin’ to the Beatles’ birthday song but just for a minute.Betty is usually present in the dining room, and her son Jason runs the kitchen but usually makes a point to check in on diners regularly.I had a problem once where they got lobster from a different supplier and it tasted wrong, they changed back to the old supplier immediately and I haven’t had a problem since.**Another great dish is the ultimate platter, fried… I usually don’t care for fish, but it’s really good… and scallops are sweet
Great food. Service was awesome. Portions were large and homemade deserts were the bomb. Would come back again when in the area.
Very good food, but the service was on the slower side. Very nice when Betty comes to you table to check on you and says thanks for coming.
Bettys was a great experience all throughout. The staff was very helpul and the food excellent! I recommend the mahi mahi for newcomers, it was all deliciously prepared and came quicker than expected! Wonderful little place to eat, definately a little island secret!
