I have dined here previously on several occasions and everything was satisfactory. However, the last time I was here I ended up going home hungry – not because of the food, but because of the ambiance. From where we were, we could see into the kitchen somewhat, and there was a woman that ultimately had us losing our appetites and leaving early. A heavier woman who was sweating profusely. She was using her hands to wipe the sweat off of her face – the same hands that were preparing our food. She also had unruly blonde/gray hair that was not in a hairnet or a hat. I noticed that the other young lady in the kitchen WAS wearing a hat. Watching this woman was most unappetizing to say the least!

Not sure about some of the comments. I’ve been going to Pitmasters for about a year now with a friend that’s a fellow foodie. I’ve had several entrees and honestly it’s been good every time. The chicken can be dry sometimes but it depends on what time of day you go, not the cooking process. Even Dustin’s and Sonny’s have drier chicken than Pitmasters, give them a shot and you’ll see what I mean. The Pulled Pork Sandwich is what I usually get as a regular but I really, really love the burnt ends dinner. The Macaroni and Cheese is always phenomenal when I have it, and the beans are by far, in this foodie’s opinion, better than the stale beans at Dustin’s. I’d rate Pitmasters a 8/10 for great service and quality of the food. I know I’ll be headed back soon.
Poor food and poor customer service. Chicken dry and tough. Other items served luke warm. Staff did not make an effort to correct the concern.
Great lunch specials- I love the shrimp po’ boy- and the bar bq is tender and tasty. I haven’t had a bad experience yet- awesome service too- we love to sit outside…
AWESOME. Was hesitant at first, only due to the fact that I am not much of a barbeque fan, but my husband and kids are. I agreed to try it because the overall scenery from the road looked like it could be okay. Everything from the parking lot to the tables are IMMACULATE. The food is amazing- especially the Burnt Ends dinner. Their salad bar is perfect with to-die-for salad dressings. Not to mention, after the second visit, we felt like family. It is truely a great family atmosphere, and definitely a fun place to be. Out back, they have a stage where they have live entertainment on the weekends, a volleyball net with football stadium lights, a fire pit, a corn-hole playing station, and a horse-shoe game pit. They serve many different kinds of beer on draft and bottle, and have a full liquor bar. The service is FANTASTIC, and the waitresses are as friendly as can be. The owners are Sam and Jackson, and i’ve never met more hardworking and genuinely kind people. It is so nice to FINALLY have a decent restaurant in West Volusia!
Pitmasters may have missed the moving mark. This restaurant started in a strip mall and had great pork plates and exceptional mixed greens. I would buy bulk beans and greens for family affairs. It is now fancier and located north of DeLand in an old biker joint fixed up real fancy. Their logos are hot and available on hats, T-shirts and accessories. This new place does not live up to their original location. The greens are better than they were when the new place opened but still not up to their original quality. I tried the ribs and they have little or no smoke and taste like they were parboiled and turbo oven cooked. The texture was good but the taste was not there. No smoke from the facility. The fries are similar to McDonalds. They have great atmosphere, the food is OK and the crowds are pretty good for dinner. Not the place for the BBQ fancier that loves smoke, smoke aroma and a little tin hanging for the walls. Not bad for the biker or NASCAR tourist looking for a good time with a cool fireplace.
