Above average food but horrible service. We were one of three couples in the restaurant. After 15 minutes we still had no menus. I had to get up and go ask for menues. We then had to ask for chips and salsa. The salsa tasted liked canned tomatoes with a few added spices. We ordered guacamole — it was below average — very plain — no lime, garlic or cilantro. Our server was very unfamiliar with the menu. My wife had the chili relleno — is was good. I had the tamales — they were good. The flour tortillas brought to the table were excellent. The service, bad salsa, and below average guacamole made a bad impression.
Bland food. Not enough cheese. I actually had to use the salt on the table, which I’ve never had to do before in a restaurant. Overpriced for the portions you get. I won’t be coming back.
Best Mexican Food Ever!. Really and truly, this was the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. We were visiting Winter Haven on St. Patrick’s Day (to go to Legoland the following day). Tanners, the pub down the street was packed, so El Olivo was our second choice. We were expecting the same old, same old, a little disappointed to not be in a St. Patty environment. The service was very slow. And then, when we were on the verge of giving up, an amazing homemade Sangria and fun Mexican sodas for the kids arrived, along with wonderful homemade chips and warm, yummy salsa. I mean they make their own tortillas and then cut them up and fry them there. The kids’ quesadillas had actual cheese, not that gooey, rubbery cheese product you usually get. The tamales are handmade and amazing! I don’t remember what my husband got, I was so enraptured with my own food, but he was equally impressed. Like I said, the service is a bit slow, but truly worth the wait. I can’t say enough good things about this place.
The best mexican restaurant. In El Olivo I found the best mexican food ever. All plates are homemade, and thet are not expensive. The place is awsome. Highly recomended
