Sunday early evening, three of us friends meet at Atkins Park for an early dinner. I really like how they separate the restaurant from the dining area and the bar space. This gives everyone the option to enjoy whichever mood they feel: + Free Parking in Back! – We all three ordered different dinner entrees; Smoked Salmon Carbonara, Southern Fried Chicken, and I opted for Shrimp & Grits. All were delicious!
Cold beer is always good & service spot on. However, food is not anything to write home about. Deviled eggs were yummy, but the bacon, calamari & fish taco apps were meh. Calamari was not seasoned whatsoever…so disappointing. Lesson learned.
This is my most frequented spot in The Highlands, which is understandable being one of Atlanta’s oldest drinking holes. The decor looks like a old timer saloon to me. You can also get a good pint at the bar or grab something to nosh on in the dining room area. The Calamari and the Guinness pretzels are great starters to share. I have had the burgers which are solid and their fried chicken sandwich. Brunch is also very good with the chicken biscuits and the very tasty fried green tomato Benedict with a spicy sriracha hollandaise. The last time I went in the fries were a bit off but usually the food is consistent. Go and enjoy one of Atlanta’s oldest offerings.
