The food was wonderful! The table shared the Dark Meat Jerk Chicken appetizer. Duly warned by the waitstaff that it would be quite spicy, I was pleasantly surprised that although they weren’t lying it was a different spicy than Asian spice. It set my mouth on fire. But, no watery eyes or nose. And, it didn’t build to intolerable. For an entree, I split the combo platter with another. It included Brown-stew Chicken, Curried Goat, and Oxtail in a slightly sweet red sauce. The sides wire dirty rice (called rice and peas in the menu?) and stewed cabbage and carrots. All of the meat was perfectly done. Sauces were complementary to the chosen meats without being overpowering. The dirty rice was good, especially when drizzled with your favorite sauce from the meats. And, the cabbage was decidedly special. I’ve always been fond of boiled cabbage, but this has a unique flavor and is less cabbage-y than most. Two warnings: 1. All the meat (that we had) is bone-in. So, watch out for the small pieces left over from cutting. 2. Unless you like straight alcohol, stay away from bar drinks. I ordered a Sex On the Beach (on special for $5 during happy hour) and it came in a tiny glass the same size as another guest’s Apple Martini. I had to order a water to sip with it, because the alcohol flavor was too much for the mixers. We weren’t there during a live music event. But, the atmosphere was upbeat and the waitstaff was friendly and helpful. I have become a fan of traditional Jamaican food and this restaurant in particular.
