Didn’t live up to the hype. I had heard good things from friends in regards to the food at Highland Tap; however, I was thoroughly disappointed when I went this past Friday night. I ordered their version of the NY Strip – although the steak was cooked appropriately, it had a displeasing taste – I couldn’t tell if it was from the propane burners they used or if they had used some sort of liquid smoke. The potatoes in the potatoes au gratin were quite turgid, possibly undercooked, although that may just be the way they are served there. My wife had a filet, ordered medium. The steak was visibly dry when it arrived.On the brighter side, the scallops were decent and my cup of clam chowder was fairly good – ironically, those were probably the least expensive things we ordered.I regret not bringing these issues to the attention of the staff, but I should have known something was amiss when the waitress offered us steak sauce as soon as our plates arrived – a good steak shouldn’t need anything on top.
