I find myself here again for the 4th, maybe 5th time in a decade. To be clear, it is unusal I go anywhere more than once or twice, and additionally Italian is my least favored cuisine. So this is off to a good start.Sure this place is cramped, reminiscent of NYC spots. The food and service remain consistently on point. The meat and cheese board is never to be missed. It is laid out like a work of pork art. Each cured item is sliced paper thin and adored with a pickled vegetable to cut through the fattiness. Cheese is optional but why would you not opt for it? I mean , this board isn’t kosher to begin with.I tried the roasted shrimp starter this time and it has that wonderful charred crustacean scent that takes me back to my Florida childhood. Topped with lemon, capers and garlic it is a flavor powerhouse and the shrimp is head on, split, skewered and cooked to perfection. I rudely but unashamedly licked my fingers. No entree for me tonight. I opted for two sides of perfectly creamy polenta and roasted veal meatballs. I forgot to ask if they came with marinara but they do. It’s fine if you like red sauce. I don’t but I ate it anyway. That polenta is EVERYTHING.Pasta bolognese is comforting and classic. It is tossed in tagliatelle and simply heavenly. The flourless chocolate cake is in need of a renaming. This is a dense almost candy like structure with a side of a ganache type concoction. The crispy almond praline helps offset the creamy goo but it may need a rethink. Maybe more egg whites to lighten, whipped cream instead of ganache? It goes over the line even for us die hard chocoholics.Balcony is always first choice for quiet but this time I sat inside the main dining room and it did not suck. I will be back for another visit. It’s still a win and if you can stay consistently good for this many years in Atlanta you are doing something right. Or everything right. dishesdelicious.net

My Favorite. This restaurant is my go-to. My favorite restaurant to visit when I am in Atlanta. It is a smaller restaurant in the fantastic Virginia-Highland food area. The balcony is my favorite place to sit, and includes about two or three other restaurants outside seating areas all connected. The food at La Tavola is some of the best Italian I have had. The Lasagna Bolognese is my favorite dish, and includes a unique spinach made pasta. The dish is just incredible. The Squid Ink Linguine is also simply incredible. I highly recommend getting both dishes, if not as full entrees to share at least half-size portions.

Perfect Night out for Italian. Went looking for some simple italian but found a dinner with good proportions and delightful atmosphere. My favorite was the squid ink lingiune.

Wine was good, but unfortunately that was all. Had a craving for Italian food and tried La Tavola based on a recommendation. I was disappointed by the service, not unfriendly – but zero personality or smile. But hey, everyone has an off night. Unfortunately, food didn’t make up for service. The lasagna was mushy, think cheese and doughy goo, burnt on the edges and very salty. My husband’s dish wasn’t much better. The wine was really good, but that’s about the only positive. I’d skip.

1st off the food the vibe and the staff are pros and second 2 none…… as a chef for 41+ years I don’t get out as much as I would like so when restaurant peeps go out it is hard 2 get a rise out of us but this spot will move a pro or a foddie . it speaks 2 the craftsmanship of the chef and kitchen staff who not only prepare delicious food but the expertise and execution of the dishes is spot on from portion size 2 the balance of flavors which sing out without over playing the other partners in the dance.. bravo 2 sarah (bartender, cutie, waitperson) 4 taking care of us in such a kind, energetic and passionate way. thanks 2 the floor manager 4 squeezing us in 2 the bar area without making others uncomfortable and 4 his bourbon recommendation and thanks 2 the chef for the comp ragu of pork over ricotta cavateli a truly stunning plate of food as was the faro and everything else we dined on last night. looking forward 2 my next visit in dec. for another perfect meal with amazing staff 2 put it over the top. xoxox bruci and luci 🙂

What a Find!. Virginia-Highlands is a charming neighborhood of trendy shops and cafes. La Tavola is a little on the formal side for a true neighborhood Italian restaurant. But it is excellent and anyone should be happy to have it nearby. The food is delicious. On Mondays they have a special pasta night with very good value. Everything we had, from appetizers through desserts, was wonderful. It is also nice to have professional wait staff who really know the menu and can make thoughtful recommendations. There is a back deck area that is nice in good weather. Inside can be a little noisy and chaotic.

Loved it. Its been a few years since we were in Atlanta, but after reading some reviews, we needed to add ours. This is a great place. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the staff. We fell in love with the Gnocchi in truffle butter and poached egg. Absolutely amazing. I still dream about it!!
