Great food, great atmosphere, waitress was phenomenal. Definitely a place to visit! Husband described it as the most laid back atmosphere with the best food.
This was by far the best meal I’ve ever had in Atlanta.. the service was impeccable, our waitress Linda was attentive, great to point out options for drinks and food and quick on any request. The place was buzzing with an eclectic mix of all ages, with fabulous lighting and ambience. Our food?!?? Unbelievable. We started with the lobster wonton rangoons, which were smothered in caviar and elegant. Then we both opted for the buttermilk fried Chicken over lobster mac & cheese with a side of collard greens. Now, you can get fried chicken and collards most anywhere in Atlanta, but the combination and skill behind each part of the dish was soooo delicious!! To top it off our dessert, compliments of the incredible Calvin himself, was a mountain of luxurious red velvet cake and cream… delicious and decadent…. in every way…. my lips still taste like my fantastic Lychee Tini..
It’s taken me a while to really explore Asian flavors, but Poor Calvin’s has completely exceeded and shattered expectations. We ventured here during Downtown Restaurant Week on a whim and were blown away by the atmosphere and decor, service and, of course, the plates. I had fried fish in a coconut curry sauce and topped with fresh cilantro – a nice nod to the area’s Southern history in perfect fusion with the chef’s own culinary roots. Poor Calvin’s is a cozy space in a bustling and very eclectic downtown scene, perfect for a dinner date. Just be careful not to miss the valet when you approach the lot! theglobetrotterfoodie.wordpress.com
The food was absolutely to die for. We had custom selections from the chef. The lobster hush puppies are awesome. I had the Salmon over collard greens washed down by the Sangria. The Fuji apple and the Sweet potato cake was enough for two people each.
Great food and great service. Went with a group of 4. Must try the lobster fried rice. I don’t know how they got the lobster to taste so good!
I went to Poor Calvins with my family for brunch. The atmosphere is fun and weird. Our server was fantastic and the staff in general was friendly and helpful. The music is a little loud so it felt kind of like a party brunch but we enjoyed it as an unexpected surprise. We ordered the Beignets as an appetizer and they were a huge hit, the spicy maple sauce was awesome. I got the fried chicken and lobster mac and cheese. It was an odd combination for sure, but a delicious one. I also had the sangria which was just boozy enough. This place is a must visit, great for a date or a group.
Loved It!. Appetizers and entrees were super good. I will definitely go back next time I’m in Atlanta.
