The service at There Brookhaven was subpar but the food was amazing. It just sucked that there were maybe 11 patrons overall and it took us about an hour to get a burger and fries. The bison burger was lit though . We started out with the pork belly appetizer seen on the lunch menu (not the brunch menu one) and that was nice too. Sweet porky situation there. I love truffle fries so this sent me to glory. I’d try it again. PS they have brunch with mimosas and stuff if that’s your gig. forkcetious.com
Our readers know of our skepticism when it comes to bar food and gastropubs in general. I hoped when I visited There Bar & Eatery Id be surprised like when we reviewed Venkmans in the Old Fourth Ward. I met with a client on Monday who was raving about the burger he had at There in Brookhaven and he insisted I try it.My co-worker that I normally go to lunch with and I proceeded, not understanding what we were getting ourselves into. I have to admit that even the tagline Bar & Eatery tended me to think bar food and clinch my teeth in anticipation of what was to come. Read on, and be as surprised as I was.My friend ordered the There Burger which is a grass-fed beef burger with the Rosemary and Garlic Fries from the lunch menu. I am trying to behave myself, so I ordered the Bison Burger (bunless) and Grilled Asparagus. When the food arrived, the first thing that caught me was the presentation. I could tell just from looking at how this food was plated that we had wandered far off the typical bar food path. One bite of my Bison Burger and the seasoned taste struck me, coupled with the flavors of the cheese and spicy mayo. It was marvelous. My friend shared that he liked it better than the FarmBurger we went to a few weeks ago. The Grilled Asparagus was pretty awesome and reminded me alot of the asparagus we had at Reel Seafood. We went into There with an ugly predisposition and we were surprised at how great the food was and we have to proclaim this is not bar food. Give There Eatery & Bar in Brookhaven a shot you wont be disappointed! Guten appetit! atlanta-food-critic.com
VERY impressed! I ordered the bison burger. BEST BURGER I have ever put in my mouth. Not undercooked, yet still incredibly juicy and well spiced. The garlic Rosemary fries with dipping sauce are a taste explosion! I’m so excited because it seems like every other burger joint I’ve eaten at I either have to choose between a great burger or great fries…not here. They are both PHENOMENAL! Service was on point too.
Was looking forward to a Sunday dinner out with family. I now regret my choice…The food was the worst… I ordered the Reuben on the waiters recommendation. The meat was skimpy, it was fatty and tough. They left off the kraut when I asked for extra… It was made with some kind of sad looking wheat bread… A Reuben should be served on rye bread!! The food was bland not seasoned properly The service was fair we had to ask for the basics like salt and pepper. I’m not one to complain as a rule… Not sure it would have helped. the 80.00 bucks I dropped on food and drink was a total waste. So mark this one off your list of places to consider… There are much better choices just around the corner !!
Food is really good. Menu changes weekly and is creative. Drink menu is good. One of the few places in town that has copper mugs for Moscow Mules.
Disappointing. Went on Saturday night. When we got to the restaurant, we were the only people in there besides 3 people sitting at the bar. The staff was friendly and courteous, but that is where the positive points end. The crab dip and manchego cheese appetizer was terrible. It wasn’t just the fact that they had burned the cheese, but they had added too much lemon juice (or something sour). Long story short it tasted awful and took about 15 minutes from the time we ordered it to get to our table (with no one else in the restaurant). My wife ordered the burger, which was good. I ordered the mahi cuban which was very disappointing. First, they had not fully de-boned the fish, so my first bite ended with my cheek being stabbed by a fish bone. While they advertise their house-made pickles (which are good), the sandwich had entirely too many for its small size. Both meals were served with fries, which were very good and the high point in the meal. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. It is a restaurant that has potential, but it needs to do some serious work if it wants to succeed.
