I’m from New England, so finding amazing seafood is not difficult. What is VERY difficult to find though, is mouth watering barbecue. Whenever I take a trip south of DC I try to find that perfect spot for a given meat (pulled pork, brisket, ribs, etc) and sometimes get lucky, most of the time I don’t. When I started looking around Atlanta, I found Matt’s on website and hoped its taste matched its rating (often I read about how great something is and find myself in a Waffle House/ Cracker Barrel/ Panera Bread chain disappointed at the suggestion), and it did not disappoint. From the Georgia Dome it took about 25 minutes (around 3ish) to get to the shack using I-75/85 north. What struck me immediately was the look of the place, it definitely was not some mid priced eats chain that mass produced BBQ smothered in someone else’s sauce. No, this was a blues and BBQ pit stop that didn’t try to hide what it was good at, making ribs. The parking on the outside was alright (there is more in the back I recommend taking advantage of) but we came at an odd time so there was a delivery in progress, which left us stuck on the road for a bit. When you enter you are greeted by pictures of Jimmy Rogers, Muddy Waters, BB King and the sounds of the Blues. You can buy half a slab, a full slab, pork sandwiches and all sorts of fixings (including sweet potato pie). Sweet tea is there in plenty to drink and so is their own custom sauce (we were told they make five vats of it a day, fresh each morning, in preparation for the day ahead), which is some of the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere and the food are absolutely perfect. The taste needs to be experienced if you want some damn good ribs.Make it a point to try it once. You will come back again, I know I will. theglobetrotterfoodie.wordpress.com

Fat matts is a trendy eatery in atlanta in a vibrant fun area of atlanta….very safe and cosmopolitan….at any time you may experience a short wait as it is very popular ….the food is great and the surrounding area has so much to do you can make a day trip out of it…2 miles from buckhead and lenox mall….1 mile from piedmont park ….many new shops close to this eatery….you will have a wonderful time

This place is awesome. It must be the sauce and the fall off the bone seared meat. I don’t even like ribs usually but this place made me love them. Meals are typically served with white bread, and the joint can get kind of overcrowded but whatever it’s worth it! Don’t forget a slice of sweet potato pie before you bounce

Stopped here while on vacation in Atlanta one evening and had some great barbecue. Cool place with live music and some great food. The service seemed a little hit or miss, but mostly fine. Some of the other clientele was a little rude, but maybe I’m just out of my element down here. Definitely recommend stopping in and grabbing a plate of ribs. My wife got a sandwich and enjoyed that as well.

Sucks. The brisket. The chicken. Dry and flavorless. I’ve eaten here multiple times. No idea why this place has such incredible reviews. It’s only charm is that’s a dive bar. Go to sweet auburn if you want some good BBQ.

It’s well worth the wait to sink your teeth into BBQ heaven here at Fat Matt’s…these guys know what they are doing and they keep you coming back.. The waitresses are super nice and keep things flowing smoothly. Service is quick but as with all things that are delicious it’s a slight wait to get to the counter and place your order but well worth it. I was lucky enough to try the ribs… In one word… Perfection!!! They were well seasoned and cooked with just enough char to be magazine cover worthy lol. Mac and cheese was a meal alone… Moist and cheesy without being over the top. I liked the flavor and seasoning of the collard greens as well. Overall everything was delicious and we’ll prepared. My family had a great meal and left stuffed with doggie bags…we will definitely be back for another round lol!
