This place is beautiful. It really is. The tile, the festive, yet tasteful decor… Typical menu, pricing, and specials. For the most part, typical, masses-pleasing food. The guac was bland. The hubs liked the chicken soup but I thought the broth was a lot like Campbells. The Chile relleno was the worst I’ve ever had. In fact, I don’t think you can call it a chile relleno because there was no pepper. At all. The place is pretty loud/noisy. Which is not as bothersome as the overall service. Our personal experience today, which is Sunday, was that the service was slow. This really gripes me. I only eat out on Sundays when I am traveling because it is so typical for the service to be so bad. You know because, surprise, we’re busy, right after 4 churches in the neighborhood let out… seriously, better to not be open if you can’t handle it. But don’t open and then expect the church crowd to be ok with crappie service.
VERY GOOD!!!!. I’ve been eating at El Nopal for years, and for the most part have been pleased with my experiences. The restaurant itself is probably one of the most festive in the area when it comes to decor and atmosphere. If that kind of thing ranks high on your list then you’ll like this place. If you’re looking for a hole in the wall with a more authentic feel of what most of Mexico is really like, go somewhere else. Below is a more recent Gula review:Atmosphere: Lots of money was spent on this building, and it paid off. I’d say that it is the nicest restaurant in Calhoun, which may not be saying much. 4.5 FORKS!!!!!Cleanliness: The health score has consistently been a low B for years. Well, I went in earlier this week and was surprised to see a 100 on the report! No cleanliness issues here….for now! FIVE FORKS!!!!Service: Overall, good & friendly. 3 FORKS!!!Quality of Food: Varies.. but on this trip everything was good. Good chips n salsa. 3.5 FORKS!!!>Value: About average. 3 FORKS!!!FINAL SCORE – 3.8……….VERY GOOD.
Ameri-Mex Done Right. El Nopal checks all of the right boxes for an Ameri-Mex restaurant.1. Their salsa is really tasty.2. The environment is clean and pleasant.3. Their prices are very good. Most entrees are in the $7-10 range.4. The food is quite good and pretty fresh.Bottom line: For a non-authentic Mexican, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better place than El Nopal.
A very lively place!. I was astounded by the upbeat atmosphere of this place! The decoration is beautiful and unique to this restaurant and no doubt one of the best Mexican restaurants in Calhoun to eat. I ordered the beef taco salad for lunch and also ordered banana and brownie bites for dessert. A very good deal! All of that was just over 13 dollars. I would choose this place over a taco bell any day of the week!
Its ok. I have eaten at this place when it was just in Adairsville and it was great but when it moved to Calhoun the service was poor and the food did not taste the same.
