Where to begin…..In the past, we have enjoyed eating at Plates on the Square. So much so, when our daughter’s college graduation approached, Plates was our first choice when deciding where to take our extended family afterward for a celebratory lunch. So, I reserved a table for 12 for lunch that day. When I made the reservation, I requested to sit upstairs. I was told that they weren’t sure the upstairs area would be open, but since that was graduation day, they may decide to open it. I asked them to please make a note on our reservation that we would love to sit upstairs if they did decide to open the area that day. When we arrived we were taken upstairs, but I was a little disappointed that our group was seated along the wall with half of us seated on a long bench with high-top pub tables, and the rest seated on tall pub chairs. Not exactly what I had invisioned, but I didn’t say anything and we made the best of it. I had assumed we would be seated in the dining area at a long table. To make a VERY long story short, the wait for our food was ridiculous. We were at the restaurant almost three hours. And we left within 20 minutes of our food being placed in front of us. One member of our group had to leave before her food arrived. When the food FINALLY arrived, it was ice-cold. Two members of our party asked for boxes because they said they would rather take the food home and reheat it. Everyone’s food was cold! The manager did come to our table several times throughout our visit to thank us for our patience, but that really didn’t alleviate the disappointment and embarrassment my husband and I felt having taken our family there for this celebration. We did not complain the first two times she came by, but the cold food was the last straw, so we let her know we were unhappy. She offered desert for our table and a 15% discount (on food only). We declined the desert offer because 3 hours on the bench was about all the ladies in our group could stand! The 15% discount on the food was almost an insult considering that this was the worst service and food we have experienced, and on such a special day.I doubt we will visit Plates again…. We will definitely never take a group there again. 🙁
Good food, not service. I am a visitor to the Carrollton area and this is the second time I have eaten at this restaurant. The food is good but the service has a lot to be desired. On both occasions the servers were very rude and very slow getting back to our table in the upstairs location.
