Waited over an hour for a reservation I made re day before. I made a reservation for 10people at 1030 tonight, 02/07, and left shortly after midnight after not being seated? Seems like they over reserved and ruined a birthday party
Great food and atmosphere!. I visited Cafe Instanbul in Kennesaw for the first time for lunch and I was very impressed! The decor is beautiful. You have the option of table seating or you can sit on the pillow covered floor. My husband and I sat on the floor. I’ve been on a falafel wrap kick lately and I’ve been having a hard time finding good falafel outside of Atlanta. I was glad to see they had falafel on the menu. The falafel wrap I ordered came with fries. It was also served with tahani sauce on the side. The wrap was fantastic! It has a bit of hot sauce which gives it a unique kick. My husband ordered the Tim Vegetarian Special. Very tasty as well! If you like to drink alcohol, get ready to pay a pretty penny as the drinks are not cheap. I was very pleased with the food, location, and service. We will return for sure!
The Birthday Disaster. It started this week when I called Cafe Istanbul 2 in Kennesaw, I know I called that one because I have it on my phone records that that one is indeed the one that is online for Cafe Istanbul 2. I called up told them I needed a table for 18 people for my birthday for 9 o’ clock. They said okay, and all was good. Then I come to Cafe Istanbul 2 last night with now 15 of my friends and I tell them I have a reservation. The lady at the front desk tells me my name is not there and I did not make a reservation. I told her I did indeed call this one, and I know I made a reservation. She started to accuse me of calling the wrong one, and telling me there is nothing she can do about it, and I assured her that this was not my fault and I have 15 girls waiting to be sat down so she needed to figure this out. She came back ten minutes later to tell me that since it is so packed that all we can get is two corner tables.. I assumed that she means two tables that could sit 6-8 people, no they sat 4 people per a table, so we were now squished between two tables of people who were not happy since the staff asked them to move from where they orginally were to be able to seat us. Anyways, we are now all smushed together and our waiter finally comes out and I asked him if we can go ahead and start getting the hookah, and he told me we have to spend TEN DOLLARS per a person who was smoking hookah, before we could actually start smoking… We had all just ate before, and none of us were feeling the food from there , so when he left we all got up and left. No one approached us to ask us what was wrong and none of the staff was on the floor. I am so appalled that after going here so many time that the staff would be so callous towards my guests and I, and they have definitely lost 16 customers.
Ever Opened?. The food and service here are great. Unfortunately, they don’t abide by their posted hours of operation. Twice now I’ve driven 45 minutes to lunch here on a Saturday, only to find the restaurant closed with no notification. Their posted hours on Saturdays are 11:30 am – midnight. One of the times they were closed was at noon, the other time was at 2:00. Very frustrating.
Make changes!. Where to begin….First walking in there is an empty dance floor with a dj blasting music and an obnoxious disco light and this was at 7:30. Table seating is terrible and on top of each other. I had a reservation for seven people last night for my birthday and about five minutes later after the horrible waitress dropped off waters for everyone she wanted to take our dinner orders… I told her we’d need more time to look since only 2 out of 7 of us had menus but that we’d like to order some alcohol and appetizers. So 15-20 minutes later we were still waiting on our wine and half way through 2 of 3 apps. When a different lady dropped off the wine we inquired about 3rd app and told her we’d order. A bit later I was told that the belly dancer starts around 8… She danced a total of 2 songs and we were there until almost 10 there were children there trying to dance w her and putting money in her skirt. Awkward! Not to mention the bartender throwing money at her like she was a stripper. While my wine was empty for too long waiting on dinner and the server not coming to check on us I went to the bar and asked if I could have another at this same time the manager was coming out of the kitchen and not concerned in the least of why a table customer was at the bar. When our food came out my bf was missing his dish and she asked what he had and looked surprised clearly she forgot to put it in. His arrived when we were about finished. She gave us some boxes but then never brought the check! We all sat there for about 15 minutes waiting. Finally, my bf went up to the bar to ask if we could pay and again the manager seeing this and not saying anything! I am a nurse currently but was in the service industry for 10 years and helped start a GREEK restaurant and this was terrible service and the dj needs to turn down the volume during dinner hours and start up around 10 and stick to the Turkish music and the disco light needs to be on hold until then…the servers need training as well as management. Belly dancer should dance more w/o bartender throwing money. The walls and ceiling are pretty food was decent. Bathrooms are nasty.
Hoped for better. My room-mate and I went with reservations (we thought Saturday night and belly- dancing and all the good reviews would warrant such) and they seated us in the back isle with our backs to the main floor… It was early so we thought they must have a lot of reservations… The place is quite spacious and nice, but they were dead. I am vegan, so I ordered the Ezme. It was delicious, but if you don’t like spicy HOT~ I mean REALLY, REALLY HOT then you will choke. It just so happens that me and my room-mate are fond of hot and spicy food, so we liked it, but it left us choking and sweating. I have no complaints about that, though. It was the best dish we had. My room-mate happens to be a big meat-eater. He ordered the Lamb and I ordered what I thought was a completely vegan dish… He was disappointed. It looked like a pita smothered in ground beef (he ordered lamb), and mine was smothered in cheese like a lasagna(not in the description AT ALL). I sent it back for a falafel plate. The rice was delicious, but the falafel was over fried… So, stick to the apps. The belly dancer came out and danced for about 5- 10 minutes MAX and disappeared. We had to completely turn around to watch her and she never moved around the room, so we had our tips ready, but she did not get them (we later saw her getting slapped on the ass by the DJ and hanging out with him behind the booth = You figure it out)… Hookas/ Shishas/ Nargilas were $20. Double what I expected or have paid. It seemed to be the reason ppl were there, though… It’s sad, because they had families with young children there, and I think they were looking for a bit of a cultural experience, like we were… They need to up the ante and give a good show. They are really missing out on that demographic. I have been to the Middle East and while I am not expecting something THAT authentic I did hope for better. I have had better, as a matter of fact, right in the middle of Atlanta, several times! They also tried to over-charge us $1 per glass for my wine…With all that said~ Our waitress was EXCEPTIONAL and very sweet. We had absolutely no problem with her service! If someone worked out the kinks and fixed the ‘disconnect’ I would give it another try.
New in Town. My sister and I had a delightful lunch at Cafe Instabul 2 last week. I had the Moussaka and she had the Saute Lamb. We also had the cucumber appetizer and the smoked eggplant. Yum Yum. We will be back…..
