Buffet style lunch with a fine dining edge. One price gets you unlimited beverage, a full plate of food and a dessert. The food is always wonderful. Buffet and tables are always super clean.
Best buffet around.. This is one of the best buffets I have had. Price is great… $10 flat…. and the food was awesome. I used to work down the street and ate there at least once a week for lunch, and I never had a bad experience. Deff in my top 3 lunch places in Dalton.
Clam Chowder!!! It was actually very good!. I was surprised at how good their clam chowder was. I usually don’t expect too much from inland seafood chowders, but this is one of the best I’ve had in a while. Unfortunately, it is not served on any specific day so there’s no knowing when it is available, but I imagine it is on the same days that they do their fish and shrimp. It’s worth calling ahead to find out if they have it on the buffet before making the trip…..of course, if you eat here on a regular basis, you’re bound to land on the right day sooner or later.07 Feb, 2013The Gula Report. It’s been a while since I have tried this place. I wasn’t impressed on my initial visit, but I understand that there was a changing of chef/cooks during that time, so I thought I’d give it another try. This time I went for Sunday Lunch with a party of ten. I’ve decided to do a full report:Atmosphere: The Filling Station is a renovated gas station in downtown Dalton. They did a good job. They closed the front in with glass and use white table cloths so it does sell the idea that this is not a greasy spoon. In contrast with this dining area you have the back dining room which is decorated with vintage items to reflect the original use of the building. Lots of auto-memorabilia. Much of this is hanging on a wall that is unfinished brick to allow the customers to get the feel of the nostalgia of the building. There are also old photographs of Dalton hanging in the hallway, which I am a sucker for. I think they’ve did a good job selling the theme that goes along with the name of their restaurant. The building is somewhat small for its own popularity, so I can’t say it is the most comfortable dining experience I’ve had. I’ll give them four forks!!!!Cleanliness: I did not have any apparent cleanliness issues and the health score was satisfactory. I’ll give them four forks!!!!Service: This is a buffet style restaurant, so this is difficult to judge. Everything is self-serve. They’re friendly enough and clearly will accomodate as much as possible to the needs of their customers. Unfortunately, the type of restaurant they have does require a larger space. For example, ten of us show up. We are encouraged to get in line, prepare our plates and then go find a table. Obliviously, one can see how this can backfire if all the tables are taken. If you go with a larger party, you may want to find a seat for everyone first then go prepare your food. This was very frustrating for my party and I can’t say I was impressed with how the hostess dealt with such situations. I will be lenient and give them two forks!!Quality of Food: This being a buffet automatically makes one skeptical about the food’s quality. Let’s face it, a buffet is not your typical go-to place for great food. They’re usually the opposite, and mediocre filler food at best. The FS tries to rise above that stereotype, and offer typical country cooking fare at a higher level of deliciousness. I personally believe they have accomplished this and it is reflected in their popularity. All the food is good to great to excellent, and the Fried Chicken is probably the BEST in Dalton!!! Desserts are very tasty. I didn’t eat anything that was bad! For the chicken alone I have no other choice than to give them five forks!!!!!Value: On weekdays, you get all you can eat, all you can drink beverages, and a dessert for $10.00($5.00 for children) That price increases to $12.50($6.75 for children) for Sunday lunch. This is about right when compared to other similar establishments. It might be a little pricey if you’re not that hungry. Since it is self-serve there is no one to tip, so that’s one less expense here. I think the $12.50 on Sundays is pushing it. I’ll give them three forks!!!Final Score: 3.6 FORKNot bad, but could have easily been a Four Fork review with the placement of a better seating plan.
