Great food, great people! I’ve been dining here for years and whenever friends come in from out-of-town, they want to come here for BBQ. I even rented one of the rooms for my birthday party several years ago and some of the guests who weren’t sure they’d like Korean cuisine ended up ordering double orders!

First of all, that pic is not at all what Bulgogi at this place looks like…Four friends and I went to HWD and despite its shady location/area, it was very nice inside. The staff was also very nice. Two of us ordered Bulgogi and one of us ordered a chicken variant of Bulgogi…they brought out all of the meat at once and about 10 mins. later started cooking them one-by-one in front of us. The fourth person, who got a soup dish was almost done by the time the FIRST Bulgogi was done cooking. By the time the second Bulgogi was done, the soup and first Bulgogi people were done, and it continued on this way. And finally, after lusting over the first two Bulgogis that had been made (and eaten) in front of me, the flavor was, eh. -_-

About the most authentic Korean BBQ in Atlanta. Places come and go, but Hae Woon Dae consistently serves up the best Korean BBQ in all of Atlanta. The variety of the meats and the quantity and quality of the sides always amaze me. Other places might be the rage, but for the real thing with excellent service, I always return to Hae Woon Dae.

Wood Fired and Middling. After I raved about the Honey Pig restaurant, a friend suggested Hae Woon Dae and their wood fired grills. Turns out, the wood fire grill is the only thing Hae Woon Dae has in its favor.Don’t get me wrong, the food was decent, but the cuts of meat were nowhere near as fantastic as what we got at Honey Pig, and the kimchi was mostly fibrous stem pieces of cabbage, not the nice leafy portions I’d prefer. The rice was good, but nothing special and the only wrap option for your hot grilled meat were nappa cabbage leaves. Other Korean places give you several options, which is nice. The service was, well, surly, the atmosphere reminiscent of a Soviet-era hospital cafeteria, and the neighborhood fraught with rough characters, a strip club and an oddly out of place ice cream stand. I guess even gangstas and their strippers like the contrast of spicy Korean followed by creamy frozen treats.

My 1st Korean BBQ. I was lucky to have gadgetgeek along for my first trip to a Korean BBQ place. He picked this one out as one of his favorites with the added benefit of having charcoal grills at the table (instead of the electrics that many use.)What can I say, other than this was a lot of fun and very tasty. We had Bul Gogi (beef marinated in traditional Korean sauce) and O Jing A Soot Bul Gui (squid marinated in the same sauce). The really fun parts of this meal are the 10 or so small plates (called banchan) that had little bits of sweet, hot, savory, or spicy things to eat with your bbq.For those like me who’ve not done this before, they bring out all the small plates and throw your meat of choice on the grill. Great smells coming off that grill! As they stop by and pull things off the grill, you can either take big lettuce leaves and add meat and condiments from the small plates, or you can simply apply them directly to the meat or eat the meat with the bowl of nice sticky rice every person has. Lots of options and lots of tastes.By the way, the beef was soft and tasty, with a lot of flavor from the marinade and the squid had a great grilled flavor and was not overly chewy (lets say it was about halfway between perfect and too chewy). With 2 of us, this was a fun meal. I can guess that with 4 or more people, this would be a great way to spend a couple hours. Along these same lines, 2 meats were MORE than enough for 2 people. I would think that a group of 4 would have plenty to eat with 3 orders of meat/seafood.

Authentic Korean BBQ. This is the place to go for Korean BBQ. Try the Galbi (Korean Short Ribs) and don’t forget a bottle of soju. You cannot go wrong here. Amazing.
