Service has gone down since the name change….. This used to be Amigos but since the remodel they changed their name to El Dorado 2. My boyfriend and I used to come in frequently when it was Amigos so since the remodel we thought we would give it a go….let’s just say the service has gone WAY down and …ummm….did someone not give the employees the memo that this is supposed to be a restaurant? We were greeted by a young lady who spoke broken english who sat us at the very first table right next to the door. She asked for our drink orders and I said I wanted a rootbeer but she kept saying Mr.Pibb….umm no root beer….oh no we have coca, fanta, sprite or Pibb….So why then do they have root beer on their menu??? Ok no problem…just a Coke I guess. We proceed to order..he ordered the Burrito Special and I ordered Carne Asada. 5 minutes later we get our drinks and chips and salsa. Salsa was good but I wanted cheese dip as well…..so we looked for our waitress, who apparently was in the back… all the while this 2 maybe 3 year old little girl was walking around the restaurant, completely comfortable, as if she lived there. Another customer came in to place a to go order and our waitress finally comes out of the back. she proceeds to take the other customers order, answer the phone and speak to the little girl….who come to find out is her little girl as she kept calling the waitress mommy. So my boyfriend decided to just go to the register and ask her for some cheese dip……10 minutes has now gone by….she brings my tortillas…. then the cheese dip and I swear we got to have 3 chips with the cheese dip and she brings out our food….I unroll my silverwear and all I have is a fork and a butter knife…..ummm..ok I guess I will cut the steak with a butter knife…..so my boyfriend gets tired of watching me fight to cut my steak and asks our waitress for a steak knife…she doesn’t understand……sees me struggling to cut the meat with the butter knife and says uno momento senora………Yay I get a knife…..meanwhile my drink has gone empty and by this point I am a bit frustrated with the lack of service and the customers seeming to watch the waitress’s little girl…..In all honesty this place was better as Amigos…I don’t know if they switched ownership along with the name change but some things are better left alone….oh and one last thing…..Adult customers really don’t want to watch children’s cartoons when they come to eat dinner…
Huevos Rancheros. Another tasty dish, the sauce on top is spicy. You might want to ask for it on the side.23 Nov, 2014Huevo con Chorizo (Mexican Sausage). They also serve breakfast. Awesome dish!23 Nov, 2014Name was changed to El Dorado. Food still great! friendly atmosphere!
Authentic Mexican Food. There’s a chance this restaurant will close in spite of its great tasting Mexican food. I have been eating here for at least 10 years and have never been disappointed with the food or service. If you are truly looking for great food, you will have to look past the decor and stop in at the Amigos on Buford Highway near downtown Duluth.
No liquor license, no heat (was told to sit by the kitchen to stay warm) but the food was great!
Best In Duluth. Absolutely the best Mexican food in Duluth by Far. While others may out do Amigos for atmosphere, Amigos makes up for quality food, hot chips and fresh salsa made daily. The Soupa-De-Pollo is awesome; Pollo Fundido my Favorite. Can’t go wrong. Wait staff and owner very personable. Why would you go anywhere else.
Our Mexican Place. My wife and I discovered this place after Chonas went under new management. The food is great and affordable. The staff and owners and very friendly and always happy to help. Most important: for those of you like me who order chicken fajita quesadillas, they cut them in triangle pieces! YES!
A hole in the wall, but the best hole in the wall…. I discovered this place while taking a drive on my lunch break. I decided to pull in & see what it was all about. The chips & sals are great, & their Pollo Adove is one of the best dishes I’ve ever had @ a Mexican restaurant. The prices seem to by typical of most Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in the area.
