Sad….. For years we thought this was the best Mexican in ATL/Dunwoody. About a year ago we had our first disappointing meal. We took a hiatus from El Azteca and this past Wednesday decided to return and hope for the best. Oh dear!!!!! The basket of chips arrived with salsa. I took a chip and knew we had a big problem. The oil to fry chips was either, old, rancid or simply hadn’t been changed in way too long. I know this as I am a cook and that taste is easily distinguishable. So either the kitchen or the supplier of the chips is using rancid frying oil. What happened to this place!? Eat at your own risk!

Our favorite Mexican restaurant. I am very puzzled at some of the negative reviews!! My wife and I have been here several times and have never had less than a fantastic meal and fine service. My wife loves the grilled steak flautas and I love the grilled steak tacos. The margaritas are also excellent. We only wish we lived closer so that we could go a lot more often!!
This restaurant is not authentic at all.. The food was super American like. If you don’t know any better than you won’t notice the difference but if you have had REAL Mexican food before than this place is not Mexican at all. Even the waitress herself said that she never eats there cause its gross!
My girlfriend and I recently went here for the last time. It was Sunday afternoon and it was sunny, so we decided to eat outside. An hour and a half later we go to pay our bill and it’s $60. Big beers that cost $13.90? Small Texas margaritas that cost over $14? The chimichanga had stewed meat instead of flank steak that most places use. Cheese dip was cold and not even melted throughly. Way better option in the dunwoody area than this place. Heed the warnings.
Food is usually good. Lately there have been problems: soup is cold, meat is fatty, they don’t have rice. I have never seen a Mexican restaurant without rice.
Our Favorite Mexican Restaurant. We have tried most of the Mexican Restaurants in Dunwoody and Sandy Springs. We only discovered El Azteca about 2 years ago and it has become our favorite. They have a special every day and their chips, salsa and cheese dip are very good. My family includes 2 vegetarians. We all have found dishes we look forward to every week.
