Excellent gyros and their salads are big and filling. Great place for lunch, easy to get to in the shopping center. You can order ahead and they’ll have it ready.
My first time ordering from Pita By the Beirut in Dunwoody – I’d been hearing excellent comments and I do love Mediterranean food, so…. Ordered the Chicken Pita Platter for myself and two friends, which comes with rice and grilled vegetables. The chicken has an excellent flavor and is seasoned just right. The rice is very good, seasoned but not too salty or overbearing – could make that an entree. The vegetables are touched with the grill marks and generously cut, and the pita bread wedges are perfect for scooping everything up. The house tzatziki sauce is perfect – mild and flavorful. The baklava is flaky, sticky, goodness. For any tree nut allergy sufferers, it does contain walnuts. Now for the bad…I happened to go during the lunch rush – won’t do that again. Everyone seemed rushed, unorganized and confused. The gentleman at the register had a hard time hearing my order over the noise level in the restaurant as well as the prepwork in the open kitchen. The wait was longer than I expected. The gentleman at the register was also perspiring quite a bit, then went to handle food – I know it was busy, but that certainly was not good judgment. The restaurant owner should consider three other very important items: 1) EVERYONE should wear gloves to prep the food that is being served. There was no consistency with this, and that’s not a good thing, especially when a person who is perspiring then moves over to help with order prep; and 2) I witnessed a prep person handling another order directly after handling an order that contained fish – HUGE PROBLEM – as a severe seafood / fish allergy sufferer, that is a major mistake. Even when it’s busy, take the important moment to change gloves between handling fish / seafood and other food, cooked or uncooked – your customers will be glad you did; and 3) ALL the prep folk should be wearing hairnets. One of my friends found a hair in her food – not good at all. No, the hairnets are not fashionable, but they will avoid the ‘hair-in-the-customer’s-food’ problem.Because I saw the cross-contamination issue, I didn’t order the delicious-looking fries – I wasn’t certain if they were cooked in the same oil as the fish, and that’s another potential cross-contamination allergy issue. While the food is very good, I will not be back to this or any location of Pita By the Beirut. Too bad, the food is great.
