First thing about this place is it is a bar. Smoking is allowed, and the interior smells of it. But, they make no attempt to act like it is something it is not. My wife can’t handle cigarette smoke, so we ate on the balcony.I had to deduct a point for the server because he bitched at us for sitting at a table for six when it was the only available table. Apparently it was for four or more only. We were able to sit at a small table for two when it opened up, and our server earned his way back into our good graces by providing good service. I ordered the black and bleu burger with fries. The fries were generic, nothing special fries. But the burger… oh that burger! Perfectly seasoned, insanely juicy, and delicious as hell! It has made my top three burgers list.

Ok I admit. I love this place! Best burgers EVER! They are in business for their clients. Only wish I lived closer. I would probably gain weight. Nuff said. Not an upscale restaurant but they don’t pretend to be. Good food, good service.

The Vortex is the giant skull with red-streaked eyes and giant mouth (the entrance) located in the heart of Little Five Points, the Bohemian, tattooed, body-pierced young-person community in Atlanta. Inside houses lots of nostalgic signs, license plates and even an old motorcycle hanging from the ceiling with a skeleton sitting on it.The three of us ordered the Vortex burger (fabulous), Four Horsemen (with horseradish sauce that had too much mayo and was pretty mild) and a dressed chicken sandwich (good). All burgers come with a choice of a side. One of us ordered tater tots (the plate was full of them, and looking around the room, those who ordered French Fries also had heaping plates), and the other two ordered cole slaw and loaded potato salad, both of which came in 1/2 cup ramekins. Both were quite rich; the potato salad was made with a lot of sour cream and sprinkled with real bacon crumbles and shredded cheese. The cole slaw was too heavy on the mayo. We were greeted by a smiling young man at the door who seated us almost immediately (5:30 on Sunday evening) and we received excellent service from our waiter. The music was not too loud for us. We could talk without shouting. theglobetrotterfoodie.wordpress.com

The Vortex in Little Five Points is a must when looking for a fun atmosphere and great food. The beer selection is to die for. This time around I treated myself to the Apple Cobbler, a mix of Ace Joker and Well’s Banana Bread, and it did not disappoint. My burger was on point also. Cooked to perfection, medium rare of course, and loaded with toppings. My only problem was there wasn’t quite enough horseradish for my liking but next time I know to request more on the side. And how can I forget the tots! Crispy and cooked to a golden brown with a side of cheesy-cheese goo for some umph. Lastly, and although others may disagree, I love the fact that this place is 21 and up. It’s like a playground for adults that takes you on a wild ride with it’s visitors, decor and staff. I am never disappointed!

What an awesome experience. Was visiting Atlanta and absolutely loved my time at Vortex. Stumbled in here almost on accident but was definitely glad we did. This place probably isn’t for everybody. But the menu options are great and this place doesn’t take itself seriously with all the signs and menu instructions. Seriously, check this place out.

This is one of the joints that everyone chats about when visiting Atlanta and you will know it when you see it. I have been here about a dozen time now and experiences have varied. First and foremost this place can get quite crowded and the service can be 50/50. Sometimes I’m seated right away and served on, other times I will be completely ignored in a rude manner. Now on to the food! They have some good appetizers here but I would not fill up because of what you are getting in the means of burger. My go to almost every time is the Blue Shroom which has crispy bacon and the best blue cheese spread I have ever had, its fluffy and full of flavor. The Double Decker Melt is also a classic. For a side always go with the tater tots on any menu, these bad boys are fried to perfection. They also have a full bar to get your drink on. There are plenty of burger joints in Atlanta but this one is for sure a classic.
