Upscale, gourmet plates was what I expected; however, typical, unexciting choices are offered. No descriptive mouth-watering temptations, no elegant sauces, no distinctive chef specials, nothing impressive. See full review at joannsfoodbites.com

The first time we went there. I was super impressed. The food was great & the service was even better. (We were served by this short hair blonde mid age woman) I thought it to be competitive in service with my fav restaurant Blue Ridge Grill, up until my second visit here. This time we had a younger blonde waiter who totally was attentive to us even with us being her only table. She brought out out our hot tea & chocolate with no spoons. She forgot about my water no Ice twice. No smaller plate to share the appetizer. It took a while to get our food. She advised us that she don’t know what happen on the back, but they didn’t have our order, so she offered us soup while we wait. Another waitress brings our food out. She comes by and say okay so you have your food, leaves & we don’t see her anymore for a long time. My husband had to go look for her to get the check & get more water that we finished more than 15mins ago. She was sitting in a booth laying back relaxing talking to the manager. SMH she comes and say she thought we was still nibbling. For some reason, she was being so pleasant now that we were leaving. Wish we had got that type of attention while we were there.. 🙁

First time there, dinner was very good. Though I only had the Reuben and steak fries, I was very pleased as this sandwich was excellent. My dinner guests had, Filet Mignon, done to perfection, Stuffed Chicken Breast, perfectly seasoned and prepared well, Salmon which was so tender it melted in his mouth. We are very impressed, and thankful for such a great place to dine so close to home, and that the owner David Reardon and wife Carol stopped by our table to greet us and welcome us to Marietta. We will become regulars here for sure.

Bad ethics. I must admit firstly that I have never eaten at Shillings. And I never will. I had purchased two Cobb Daily Deals certificates earlier this year; each purchase cost me $10 for $20 worth of food . . . a pretty good deal! I was looking forward to using them. It wasn’t until I purchased and printed the certificates that I saw the fine print stating that they are not valid on Friday and Saturdays (the only time I’m at the Marietta Square). So, the certificates ended up expiring. I held onto them, though, because most places allow you to redeem the expired certificate for the value you paid. I paid $20 for the two certificates. Well, my son went to Shillings last night with his girl friend, so I gave him one of the certificates to use so he could at least get $10 off their meals. I was very surprised when he told me later that the manager denied honoring any part of this certificate. So, this means the manager KNEW that someone had shelled out $20 total to their restaurant, receiving nothing in return, and was perfectly fine with it. Sure, it’s ‘my bad’ that I allowed these certificates to expire, but I really think it is bad ethics for any business to be so unaccomodating, even just a little, for their own personal gain.

A Go-To Place for a Good Meal. I like Shillings — maybe because I’m a one-trick pony. My favorite meal is seared tuna, and they do an outstanding job.We generally eat downstairs, but we’ve gone upstairs, which is more intimate and atmospheric, for special occasions. (Be sure to make a reservation for the upstairs dining room, since it frequently fills.) The menus upstairs and down differ, but apparently you can order from either, if you ask. For a restaurant to stay in business as long as this one has, they’re clearly doing something right!

Worst in a while. Shillings used to be something special, but last night we had the worst dining experience in quite a while at this Marietta landmark. I should specify that we ate downstairs and not at the high end Top of the Square dining room upstairs. It was theater night so the place was packed, but that wasn’t the problem. We were seated without menus or silverware and had to get them ourselves. Our waitress did not arrive for another ten minutes, meanwhile the tables on either side got their drinks and had their order taken. When we did order it was another thirty minutes before our food came. We had salads and fish which should not have taken so long. Then when it did arrive it was cold, and we sat for ten more minutes before the waitress refilled our empty drinks. We seemed to be her only table in that part of the dining room and we saw her taking lots of drinks and food to other tables. We were just forgotten. To top it off the food was barely passable and not worth the $20 price for an entree. I won’t ever go back.
