Let me just preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of Japanese food. My aunt is Japanese (my cousins were born in Japan) so I grew up eating it and learning how to make it. When I lived in Austin, TX (huge Japanese population there), I was greatly spoiled by the fantastic Japanese food there. This restaurant is not run by a Japanese family, so if you are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, you are not going to get it for $17 a person. A Japanese family would never put Chinese food on their buffet line (sesame chicken, egg drop soup, etc) The sushi is mediocre: because it’s made ahead and made with cheap ingredients (otherwise they wouldn’t make any money), it’s not quality. Things that should have been hot, like edamame (which was not salted) and snow crab was cold. Delicate items like scallop nigiri sit out at room temperature for who knows how long (raw scallops are not popular even in a sushi restaurant). Items like chicken katsu–which are absolutely delicious when fried up fresh–and yakitori sit out under a heat lamp and dry out. The miso soup was incredibly watered down. My husband and I ordered a $17 bottle of sake that was delivered to us at room temperature with an ice bucket, indicating it was supposed to be chilled but wasn’t. Because it is a buffet and doesn’t have table service, we got our drinks, our room temperature sake, and that was it–servers only came by to clear our plates when we went for seconds but never checked on us (the cold snow crab squirted disgusting water all over our table and we didn’t have any napkins to clean it, nor could we find anyone to assist us).If you are looking for a good bang for your buck and don’t care about quality, then perhaps this restaurant will suit your needs. But if you want good Japanese food and great sushi, I emplore you to skip this place. Go to a sushi restaurant with Japanese sushi chefs, sit at the bar, and order omakase (chef’s choice). You will never go back to a place like this again. Good sushi is WORTH spending $30-$40 a person.
I really like the concept. Normally when a restaurant has a sushi bar, it’s not very good and doesn’t have a large variety. Izumi not only had a great variety of sushi, but it was also fresh and tasted great. There was also some cooked dishes in the buffet line if sushi is not your thing. The hibachi was on par with what you’d get from any Chinese buffet.
I have completely changed my tune on this place. Not because of the quality of the food, but because of the integrity of the staff. A very close friend of mine had their child go there with some friends, all teenagers unaccompanied by any adults. When the group went to pay the bill, my acquaintance’s child paid with a $20 bill for an $11 tab. The waitress refused to give change, saying that it was the tip. The group showed that they had left a tip on the table, but the waitress refused to return change. Apparently, scamming a young teenager out of $9 is worth every dime of the business that they will never again receive from me. I would implore you to avoid this place as well.
Good food. but locked door In my face. Eat there twice a week, but the last time I went might be my last. Walked up to the door at 3:30 pm and they locked the door in my face. Their web sit says hours of operation 11am-10pm..
Sushi. Amazing!!!! Perfect in every way. Service and food quality is untouchable!!!
Found a new sushi spot. Great alternative to my previous sushi spot!!!! I would pay at least 20 for two rolls and I payed less here for a buffet!!! Can’t beat that if you are looking for sushi it’s great didn’t have much hot foods but they had a hibachi grill where u pick your fixings but didn’t try it definitely will next time!!!! I give an 8 out of 10 for the sushi buffet
This place is awesome
