What a surprise find. After getting out of an activity with a group at about 8 PM, we were looking for some grub. This place was only a few hundred feet down the street, but after having lived in the area for several years and driven past here probably hundreds of times…I was reluctant because it looked a little sketchy and never seemed open. My wife recently heard from friends that this was a good place with good food, so we went to give it a try.The inside is not much to speak of, but it’s clean and comfortable. There were no rogue bikers in here as the outside appearance might have suggested. The main dining and bar area were packed, so they turned on the lights and opened the back dining room, which boasts a lot more seating, two dart boards, and a single dart. Bring your own if you want to play. This place would be perfect for both small or large groups of friends looking to sit down and grab a bite and throw back a few pints. Of note, they had a trivia game ongoing when we got there. It’s every Saturday at 7 PM for those interested. The food is a bigger surprise than the inside. We ordered burgers and a pitcher. I had wings to supplement. Mine was the mushroom Swiss burger. It had onion, lettuce, and tomato with a smear of mustard…I normally don’t encounter or want those on my mushroom Swiss, but it worked *really* well together. I loved my burger. These burgers are not like the big chain places in the area; they have the feel and taste of a burger put together in a small, unique place. My one disappointment was in the ‘steakhouse’ fries, which I got because everyone else got the stock fries. The ‘steakhouse’ fries were a bit limp and soggy. After having heisted a fry from a dining companion, I can safely report that the regular fries were definitely up to par. The wings weren’t anything spectacular, but they were good. I had the ‘hot’ flavor (they have several others- check the menu posted to this site), and it had a good, spicy, vinegar tang…the wings themselves were good-sized and cooked well. Of note, my fellow diners tried the butter beans and a French fry appetizer not listed on the menu posted here. The butter beans were reportedly ‘some of the best I’ve ever had’. The delicious-looking mess of an appetizer consisted of fries, cheese, ranch, and bacon. I was told that it tastes as good as it sounds. One thing that stood out to where I have to make note of it, the staff could not have been better here. Aside from opening the back area for us, they have the art of waiting down perfectly. They are knowledgeable about the menu. They walk by in the execution of other tasks and eyeball drink levels and general state of the meal, and ask about it at the perfect times. They are friendly to a fault. If you’ve also driven past this place countless times and wondered, wonder no more…it’s good. I will definitely be back here.
Great Place to meet.. Beer is cold and priced right. Music isn’t too loud. Nice to have a place where you can actually carry on a conversation. Pub food unremarkable. Great place for happy hour with friends.
