This is one of the better rated seafood places on SSI so we decided to give it a try. We saw that their fried shrimp had won an award in a local publication as well, so we had high hopes. I checked the menu online before arriving, and I guess based on the prices I was expecting a little nicer decor/ambiance. There was nothing wrong with the decor in and of itself, but it definitely had that tourist trap vibe, and our vinyl-topped table had a big gouge in it – not things I look for when paying $20 and up per entree. The best entree we had was the fried oysters. They were perfectly acceptable. The cocktail sauce was also good. Their homemade tartar sauce was just weird, however. The blackened shrimp were good if you only had a couple of them, but they had worn out their welcome by the time the whole plate was finished. Lastly, the fried shrimp, their premier entree, were pretty average. Again, not bad, but not worth the money they were charging. The value-to-money ratio just wasn’t there. Overall, I recommend looking elsewhere for your fried seafood fix on SSI.
I had the blackened shrimp that was wonderful. Cooked to perfection. My husband had the fried shrimp, fried flounder and the crab cakes. He loved the shrimp and flounder. He liked the crab cakes but thought they were overly seasoned. We liked Iguanas so much that we went back the next day. The servers were all very friendly. We were seated promptly and our food was served hot.
The only saving grace for this restaurant is its seafood offerings. After eating here multiple times over several years, I’ve learned that the staff is not only highly incompetent, but rude. This restaurant practices horrible customer service skills. Highly disappointed.
Best Shrimp Ever!. We go to Iguana’s multiple times when we vacation on the island. Very reasonably priced. Their shrimp is amazing! I love the coconut and buffalo versions (get the sampler appetizer and a side it will feed two as a meal easily). There slaw is really good. They even have ice cream with lots of toppings for a free dessert. The management is great. They always check on us when we’re there and we have never had bad service. Staff is prompt and friendly.
Fried Shrimp. Big plate of fried shrimps and fries. Lots of food and the shrimp were large and delish!!!
One of my new favorite restrurants. My wife and I recently stopped in to have dinner at Iguanas on our way to Florida. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp. They were wonderful. For our meal we had the 14 oz rib eye & shrimp. It was also wonderful. My wife’s only compliant was that they didn’t have a t shirt in her size..We enjoyed Iguanas so much that we returned on our trip back home.
Everything is good, but …. Best shrimp in South Georgia (an area known for its shrimp)!
