Weve had dinner here three times. First time, the food was good and a very nice bar selection. A few weeks later our second visit was very disappointing. We parked and approaching the restaurant we saw the owner changing a baby diaper in the car! We understand life happens, but not something we wanted to see going to dinner. We sat at the bar and the service was great. My husband ordered paella with barrel fish. The shrimp were not much bigger than krill and we had never heard of barrel fish. Needless to say, I never want barrel fish again. It was very oily and fishy. My chicken quesadilla honestly smelled like several day old chicken barely warmed up. Not fresh at all and I couldnt eat it. We figured this was an off day and gave Graft a third and final chance. Great service at the bar. Again, the food was not great and I cant shake the diaper changing visual from my second visit. We reside between Grayson and Athens. Well worth the time to drive to Athens. There are many great places to eat there!
My best friend treated me to a birthday dinner at Graft recently. We’d heard about the place and wanted to experience it for ourselves. We went after work one day when the restaurant wasn’t too busy. There might have been six, maybe eight other parties in the establishment. We started out the night with an appetizer, the Pizzette, which is a pizza flatbread. Our waitress, who was nice, brought this out maybe 20 minutes later. Around this time, a party of four came out and sat at the table behind us. We continued eating the Pizzette and began to wait for our main entree. About 20 minutes later, I noticed a lot of noise behind us. The table behind us received their dinner and the waitress and owner (I’m assuming) came to talk and bring them their meal. Our waitress popped up and said our food should be out shortly. We continued to wait. And wait. And wait. A little more than an hour after we ordered is when our food arrived. My friend noticed that the one of the guys behind me ordered the same thing I did (the hog plate). She ordered the chicken plate. The food was very, very bland. They give you a smudge of sauce to blend with your meal but it’s only enough for one bite. The cheese grits were amazing though. (Which makes this 2 stars instead of 1) We passed on the option for dessert because we weren’t sure if we would get it in a timely manner. The owner came to ask us how our meal was and if we wanted to go boxes. I obliged though I threw it away when I got home. I was disappointed and didn’t want to play the race card to assume that’s why the service was so horrible but…Not sure I’d come back again. Which is a shame because I really wanted to try the desserts and partake in the $5 wine night (Thursday’s only). What a shame. forkcetious.com
Fantastic restaurant run by a couple of really good people! The building is rustic, quaint and so charming. The menu has some lovely organic and local offerings. The food is prepared the way a great cook would prepare it at home and the flavors are incredible. We tried the venison and the wild boar and both were delicious! We will certainly go back many times!
The duck was so tough we could not even tear it apart . Too many other good restaurants to try to go back and give them a second chance
