Mediocrity reigns in Clermont. Okay so this is not technically Clermont, but it’s close enough. Senor Fiesta is part of the new growing trend in the area to make a Mexican restaurant EXACTLY like local chain El Sombrero. Not sure why, unless local restaurateurs are too lazy to create a new menu, but Senor Fiesta and now it’s partner in clone Dos Gringos, are really making the most of being just like the old standard bearer of mexican-food-for-anglos El Sombrero, and the results? Mediocre like we expect. Okay let’s do this…First trip – I had the chorizo nachos (hint here..if the chorizo’s good, it’s a good sign) and was none to happy when my plate arrived soaking in an inordinate amount of cheap white cheese with a slick of bright red chorizo grease flowing in and around the few exposed chips showing. Its looked bad and tasted bad. Low quality chorizo, chip soft and buried under what seemed to be a shovel full of melted cheese. I tried to eat it with a fork because it was too messy to use my fingers. This was nachos folks. Nachos. Second trip – I went all out and got the Texas fajitas (after all El Sombrero does a decent fajitas meal, occasionally, sometimes), but alas my fajita dish arrives not sizzling, not steaming from heat, not wafting with fresh cooked meats and veggies, but silent and smelless. Oh, and I had to wait several more minutes before I got my rice and beans and tortillas and believe me, they were pedestrian. It’s amazing that every time I pass by Senor Fiesta the parking lot is filled. Oh well, that’s fine for ol’ Frank as he knows where to find the authentic Mexican food in town prepared with skill and love…AND at several locations. But you won’t see it reviewed here, let the chumps stay with this mediocrity so I’ll always get a table at the good spots. Adios.
