Just about as good as it gets for updated southern staples. This place has the big restaurant, personal service thing wired tight…. so much so you barely notice the scale of it all. Lunch and dinner rush are a sight to behold, and even with the (sometimes…) 30 minute wait, you never see the staff sweat… always a proper shift. The consistency of the dishes too lets you know the management is fully checked out on how to run this joint so that it never appears like the juggernaut it actually is…. however, the food really is that good. Macaroni and cheese like you aint never had….collards like my grandma used to make…. sweet potatoes worth the wait…. I could go on…. ok, so i will…. meatloaf so good itll make you wonder if you should get another plate ( easy now,…) fried chicken better than my own! Desserts if you still have room…. I dont know why I dont eat there every day…. oh yeah, I remember…. 2 straight-off-the-menu specials (one was a veggie plate!) and two drinks was 32.00 (with a tip)! Yikes! The location (Paces Ferry is HIGH fallutin) and reputation keep this place PACKED, so the sticker shock isnt really a shock…. if it were just a little more reasonable I would call it perfection…. the only thing keeping this place from being unbearably crowded are the prices…and for a once in a while treat, I say well worth it!
I haven’t been here in a while, for good reason. While nothing I’ve tried was bad, nothing was particularly good either. There’s also typically a long wait to get in when I’ve gone. Go to Willy’s in the same shopping center.
I’ve never been here where there wasn’t a wait! Seated in a busy section, waitress was very attentive. Had the grit cake appetizer, pot pie, Mac n cheese, squash casserole, and Brussel sprouts. One slip up….forgot the Brussel sprouts. Will definitely be back! Good food good price!
What I ordered was pretty good, not AMAZING or anything, but still good. The portion sizes are pretty large, but everything is a kinda pricey. Atmosphere is comfortable.
The tomato basil soup was the soup of the day when I visited… man was that stuff good. This should definitely be on their menu everyday. I also had the turkey bacon avocado sandwich with onion rings. Everything was excellent including the service. Don’t let the 10 minute wait for lunch scare you away.
I’ve been coming to OK Cafe for many years. Most of the time I’ve had really exceptional food and service. At one time, this was THE place to meet with any technology executive or venture capital investor (before the DotBomb). More recently, I’ve only been able to dine here every other year or so – the last couple of times the meals were quite good and the service exceptional. Decided to drop in since they’ve reopened (due to a fire I believe)I’m happy to say that the experience this time was much better than the last (previously some of the food came out cold and we waited for much longer than the 15 minutes we were told). It’s funny how one bad dining experience can take away years of fondness and pleasure. The dining room has a kitschy Americana appeal and the retro waitress outfits are right out of the 50s. If you go, try a classic cheese burger and milk shake – it’ll take you right back into Leave it to Beaver land…. independentrestaurantreview.com
Nice veggies.. A bit pricey for what it is, but everything I ate was good and there was certainly plenty of it. Great variety of vegetable options – I especially enjoyed the squash souffl and fried green tomatoes. Friendly and prompt service, comfortable atmosphere. Didn’t have room for dessert, but the milkshakes looked very good.
