MUCH better than Choby’s, BUT. Over the past 16+- years living and/or vacationing on Lake SInclair I’d eaten at Choby’s probably 6 times and all of them different degrees of failure. Let there be no doubt, other than a large portion of the outdated & ugly decor, there’s nothing the same. 3 of us went to Jacksons last night. I ordered Blackened Catfish Taco’s, my wife ordered the $25 Ribeye, and my friend ordered a fried platter of Shrimp and Flounder. We also ordered drinks. $3 for a domestic plain beer (Bud Light and Coors Light) is expensive for this area. The $3.75 for the rum and coke wasn’t a bad price, but the drink didnt have much rum in it. Drink grade = D. The fried platter was wonderful; HUGE improvement over Choby’s (I honestly was worried here). The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the flounder was unusually thick and tasty. The ribeye was cooked very well and a nice sized piece, although per my wife it was ever-so-slightly over-cooked. The blackened catfish taco’s were delicious, but just a tad skimpy. While plating might’ve suffered a little with 2 tacos, I think at this price point that 3 might’ve been better suited. All in all I’d give the food an A-; a HUGE improvement over the F’s that I’d give Choby’s. The service was very good. We had a waitress who was new and certainly it showed, but she did a very good job for being new and there were plenty of wait staff. The decor has been modified and upgraded a little from the days of Choby’s, but plenty of remnants remain, from bad mirrors to chairs with no padding. They advertise entertainment starting at 8ish. I think they would be better served to say 9pm and make sure the entertainment starts before 9pm. We were there hoping to be entertained and left at 8:45 with nothing started yet. Atmosphere definitely needs to be thought through, a few different decorations, better seating, and a little better management of entertainment, Score D.Overall, weighing the scores heavily on very good food, B-.We’ll be back. The food was a hit, although a tad pricey. They list entree’s here $10-15; they should be listed $10-$25 with most being in the $17 to $18 range. If we come back for entertainment we’ll eat elsewhere first and then come back to Jacksons after 9pm.
