First Indian experience I enjoyed it! The malaise chicken Thalis was wonderful! The bav bhaji was good too. I didn’t have the burgers but they looked good!
Away from home if you have a craving for Indian snacks, Chai pani is there place to go. They will serve you golgappe and when I say serve you I mean literally serve you on your plate like they do in India. They also serve vada pav, pav bhaji etc. Frankly speaking taste is good but not great and will go there for snacks craving.Ambiance – 4 starTaste – 3 StarService – 4 StarValue for Money – 3 starOverall on Chatkara Meter – 3.5 Star
This is not your typical Indian place, I see it as more of a fusion of sorts. It can be expensive for the small portions you are receiving but the food is very good. The appetizers are great, I suggest their version of Kale chips that are battered or the samosas. The sandwiches are good but like I said before, they are a bit on the small side. The fish fry and sloppy Jai are fine choices. If you want something more order the Thalis platters, they come with a fair amount of goodness. Like most international restaurants the desserts are nothing great. Also don’t forget to order a craft brew or a signature cocktail from the fantastic bar.
Very nice food. I had the Kadhai Chicken thali and it was almost as good as the food you get in India (minus the spicy part ofcourse). SPDP is a must have here. The staff was very courteous and accomodated the multiple customization demands we had! I would definitely eat here the next time I’m looking to go out for Indian food.
Chai Pani was great! It was a new spin on classic Indian cuisine. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an Indian street restaurant. Closely packed tables, lots of noise and hussle-and-bussle. Everyone is smiling, having a great time, and enjoying really good food. I will definitely go back next time I am in Decatur.
Very tasty Indian street food! Crowded on a Friday night and had to wait for about 15-20 but that’s to be expected on the weekend. While we waited we ordered a drink and had a couple crispy bites (forgot the name) that they sell for 50 cents at the front of the restaurant. Ordered the Bombay chili cheese fries which were delicious. It’s definitely not the traditional fare…the ‘chili’ was a spiced lamb hash with onions, a flavorful sauce and other components. The fries are very skinny that come with it. Ordered the butter chicken thali which came with basmati rice, a couple chick pea stews, and roti. Very tasty! We also ordered the Lamb burger which was tasty as well. They have a unique selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages that I will have to try on next visit. Atmosphere is very hip and lively. Will definitely be back!
Absolutely love the food and the vibe here. Like most places in downtown Decatur it can get quite crowded but worth the wait. The SPDP and the kale pakoras are personal favorite dishes, and the daily thalis are a favorite lunch option.
