Not Family Friendly = Thumbs up (ONLY) Decatur on W Ponce. If you have tried the restaurants/diners in the City of Decatur, you will recognize the great food and outstanding service. Most importantly, you will see that it is a family friendly city. This morning we wanted to eat out as a family and decided to go to Thumbs Up Decatur location. We were four adults, two kids and one infant. We were told the wait time was 15-20. After about 30 minutes, the hostess told us she would seat all of us together in a little longer. After a total of 50 minutes waiting time, the owner or the manager behind the breakfast bar told the hostess just to sit us somewhere, anywhere. We ended up sitting in two different tables. Funny thing is if we knew that we would have to eat separately anyway, we would have eaten and left already by that time! You do not want to imagine how the children felt since they were HUNGRY.Maybe they should a sign FAMILIES ARE NO WELCOME or PARTIES OVER FOUR ARE NOT WELCOME
Terrible dining experience! My husband, son, and I had lunch here for the first time today. It wasn’t overly busy but we had to wait a long time before someone even took our order. Then the waitress was extremely rude to us. The food was terrible. Aren’t diners supposed to have good chicken salad? This was almost not edible. Please don’t waist your money here.
A Family worth of Thumbs Up. I love breakfast too as many of the other foodies have noted and I have plenty of family that work the high end restaurants in SRQ. All I can tell you is that my 4 kids and their spouses have loved eating at Thumbs Up in Roswell. As a matter of fact, if we are passing thru Atlanta, we make a point of eating there. I personally recommend the griddle grits (generally I do not like grits, but this is an exception). The pancakes remind me of Byler’s Pancake House in GR, MI and they turn around breakfast in great time considering how busy they are. As for myself and family all we can say is keep up the good work! YUMMM!!!
Not for me. We went to this diner on the recommendation of a friend. I love breakfast so was looking forward to a great meal. Our friend told us that their pancakes were the best so I made sure to order one. I also ordered the housemade corned beef patty and eggs with toast (white bread). My husband and I also wanted to try the pecan smoked bacon so we did. I’m sorry to say that the pancake was probably the worst I’ve had at a restaurant. It looked beautifully cooked but was underdone and doughy inside. I could overlook a mistake like that but the dough tasted very commercial. I believe I can make better pancakes myself. So I tried to eat my toast but that tasted pretty bad as well. I think it’s the bread they use which probably is purchased. Then there was the corned beef patty.. it was okay. Nothing special about it and it lacked flavor. The best part of the meal was the pecan smoked bacon. It was nicely smoked and tasty. We ordered the potatoes as a takeout and it was great. My husband who usually doesn’t like catfish ordered the catfish breakfast. He LOVED the catfish so I would go back to this restaurant just so he can have more. I can at least eat the potatoes.
Thumbs Down to Service. We headed to Thumbs Up for a late breakfast on Saturday. We’ve eaten there many times and haven’t been disappointed until now. The place was not busy at all, but I noticed two servers sitting at the counter chatting with customers. After sitting at a table for over 5 minutes, we had to wave down a server to get a look at a menu. The wait staff all seem like they could use some Zoloft-they all seem depressed and lacking energy (except for Katie.) The meal was fine. We went to pay at the register, and after standing there for a couple of minutes, the guy at the counter (manager maybe?) who was not busy informed us in a rather rude tone that we had to pay our server. A word of advice, don’t turn away people with money in their hands. And please speak pleasantly to your customers. We will not be returning. Decatur deserves a good breakfast place with good service. Thumbs down to this place.
Holy biscuits and cheese!. You can’t go wrong here where breakfast is concerned. My personal pick is the egg and cheese biscuit.
