Excellent lightly breaded fresh seafood that is cooked perfectly. I recommend the shrimp and scallops and the hush puppies are a must! My husband loves their Brunswick stew. Their barbecue is good too! Reasonably priced, clean facility and friendly southern people. We stop here every time on our way back to Augusta.

I guess I was really sure what to expect from the outside of the place. But the inside is actually quite large and different than what I was expecting- in a good way. We started off with the fried pickles. There were just two of us and there was no way we were finishing off all the pickles that were brought out. For only $4 I really didn’t expect such a large amount. Then our entrees were served and they were just as big! I got the fried shrimp dinner with fries and cole slaw. Fried shrimp is really just fried shrimp- nothing that stands out. The cole slaw was okay but the hush puppies were really good. The cocktail sauce seems like they make it in house. It was different..not good, not bad..just different. At the table we also go the fish and shrimp plate which I think was pretty good and we got a kids grilled cheese, which he ate almost the entire meal so I’d say it was a hit. It was a little busy when we went but we didn’t have to wait for a table and the food came out rather quick. My only suggestion – go hungry! It’s a LOT of food!

When we first visited Pooler, we noticed that there are not many seafood restaurants in the direct vicinity. So we decided to try out Carey Hilliards despite the lack of stellar reviews. The place was packed on that Sunday afternoon. And there was a pungent smell of oil throughout the place. We ordered 2 sweet teas. We asked it to be half and half so that it wont be two sweet. However, it was still too sweet for our liking so we asked for some lemon wedges. The service was very quick despite the amount of people dining at the restaurant. We decided to go for the Captains Platter since it had all the items we wanted to try. We chose Cheddar Bake as our sides and we were recommended flounder for the choice of fish. The food arrived rather quickly, which made me realize that they were probably already fully prepared and reheated. I must give credit where credit is due: The shrimps, both grilled and breaded, were great. The scallops were ok too because I was expecting them to be rubbery and they were not. The fried oysters however, were not a win for me. The batter was too thick and you could not distinguish the taste of the oysters from the taste of the batterwhich left me wondering if there were any oysters inside at all! The fried flounder was not bad but it was too dry. We tried the deviled crab last and it was so dry that it was stuck to the crab shell. The Cheddar Bake was good albeit a bit too oily due to the poor quality of cheese that they use. The food came in generous portions. It is not the healthiest meal and definitely not the best quality seafood I have had.

Burrr!. The food might have had a decent chance if it wasn’t for what seemed to have come out of the warmer, which incidentally appears they forgot to turn on.

Don’t know what the fuss is about… They have very ordinary food. If you like Denny’s, or Bob Evan’s or Cracker Barrel, you’ll love Carey Hilliard’s. Uninspired preparation of previously frozen food. If you can’t even make a decent hamburger or salad, you should give up.I suppose if you are used to McDonald’s, you’d think this was gourmet.

Yuck. If you love frozen seafood this is the place for you.

They brought me the wrong item, and would not make it right. Pooler location does not want your business.
